Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., on Sunday that he was disappointed in former Vice President Joe Biden’s response to criticism of his remarks on working with segregationists, days after Biden claimed Booker owed him an apology on the issue. “Look, we make mistakes,” Booker, who is running against Biden for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, said on ABC’s “This Week.” “We sometimes tread upon issues that maybe we aren’t knowledgeable of. I don’t think the vice president should need this lesson, but this was a time for him to be healing and to be helpful, especially at a time that he is looking to bring this party together and lead us in what is the most important election of our lifetime. And I was disappointed. I’ve said my pi...
More than 100 religious women students from Jerusalem College of Technology/Machon Tal worked around the clock last week as part of the second annual Hack@Tal, a 44-hour hackathon for the school’s Torah-observant women students. The winning team, consisting of five software engineering and computer science students, won a 3,000 shekel prize (more than $800) for their critical solution to a challenge presented by Intel and Alyn Hospital designed to more comfortably monitor oxygen levels in infants’ bloodstream. Instead of the uncomfortable common device clipped to a finger and attached with wires, the newly developed product allows for wireless monitoring attached to the infants’ toe and part of a comfortable sock. Other challenges at the event were provided by Intel, I...
Keurig Dr Pepper, the company that manufactures Peñafiel water bottles, is voluntarily pulling its bottles after tests found arsenic levels in the product that violate state and federal guidelines. All bottles of unflavored Peñafiel mineral spring water are included in what Keurig Dr Pepper called a “voluntary withdrawal” in a statement Friday. Peñafiel is currently sold at Target, Walmart and other vendors. Consuming arsenic at much higher levels than what was found in Peñafiel’s products has been associated with many chronic diseases, a statement from Keurig Dr Pepper says. However, independent lab tests did detect arsenic in Peñafiel “at levels that exceeded the FDA’s bottled water standards for mineral water.” Re...
Joe Sestak, a former congressman from Pennsylvania and Navy admiral, became the latest Democrat to join the crowd of 2020 presidential hopefuls. The 67-year-old in a statement posted on his website Saturday said he is running to be the commander-in-chief “who serves the American people the way they deserve to be served.” “What Americans most want today is someone who is accountable to them, above self, above party, above any special interest … a President who has the depth of global experience to restore America’s leadership in the world to protect our American Dream at home … and one who is trusted to restructure policies where too many see only the growth of inequity not of the economy,” he said. President Trump in an interview broadcast Sunday said that appointing Jeff Sessions as his first attorney general was his “biggest mistake” in the Oval Office. “I would say if I had one do over, it would be, I would not have appointed Jeff Sessions to be attorney general,” Trump said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “That was the biggest mistake.” Sessions was a top 2016 campaign surrogate for Trump and the first senator to endorse him, but their relationship soured after Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian interference in 2016, leading then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint special counsel Robert Mueller. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., will propose on Monday eliminating all $1.6 trillion of student debt held in the United States, a significant escalation of the policy fight in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary two days before the candidates’ first debate in Miami. Sanders is proposing that the federal government pay to wipe clean the student debt held by 45 million Americans – including all private and graduate school debt – as part of a package that also would make public universities, community colleges and trade schools tuition-free. Sanders is proposing to pay for these plans with a tax on Wall Street his campaign says will raise more than $2 trillion over 10 years, though some tax experts give lower revenue estimates. Sanders will be joined Monday by Rep. Ilhan...
In Bamidbar, Perek Yud Gimmel, posuk chof the posuk tells us that Moshe told the Meraglim to strengthen themselves and take from the fruits of Eretz Yisroel. The Sefer Pri Haaretz explains the reason why the Man that came down in the Midbar stopped coming down as soon as they entered Eretz Yisroel. He says that as soon as the Yidden ate from the fruits of Eretz Yisroel, they did not need the Man anymore since the fruits had the same benefits that Man had. Both the Man and fruits of Eretz Yisroel came directly from Hashem and they both had the characteristic of tasting like whatever foods they wanted to taste.  This could be the reason Moshe requested that the Meraglim bring the fruit of Eretz Yisroel; so that the Yidden can see the kedusha in the fruits of Eretz Yisroel f...
The testimonies of Palestinians who suffered torture at the hands of the Palestinian Authority because they collaborated or were suspected of collaborating with Israel are due to be presented to the International Criminal Court at The Hague today. Two years ago, Jerusalem District Court Judge Moshe Drori ruled that the P.A. was responsible for abuses against 52 Israeli and Palestinian citizens from Judea and Samaria that included murder, abduction, imprisonment, torture and rape. The ruling described horrific violations: the victims were subjected to electric shocks, hung upside down for long periods, had molten plastic poured on them, had their fingernails and teeth pulled out, were sterilized, denied sleep and food. In some cases, their relatives were raped and/or murdered. One accoun...
Israel’s defense establishment has heightened its military readiness and alert status in the wake of increased tensions between Tehran and Washington, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 12 on Sunday. According to the report, which did not cite sources, the Israel Defense Forces has completed a series of steps to ensure preparedness in the event of an Iranian attack, whether via Iranian proxies Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, or by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria. Also on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton in Jerusalem ahead of a tripartite meeting of Israeli, American and Russian security officials in the city scheduled to begin today. Prime Minister Netanyahu said Sunday he is ready to “consider” the forthcoming US peace plan to resolve the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “We will consider the American proposal in a fair and open way,” he said as he hosted US national security adviser John Bolton ahead of a summit in Bahrain where Washington plans to unveil economic details of its long-awaited Middle East peace plan. Palestinians have already rejected the plan and are boycotting the economic roll-out this week in Bahrain, citing blatant bias in favor of Israel. “I don’t understand how the Palestinians rejected the plan even before knowing what it contained,” said Netanyahu. “That’s not how you move forward.” Read more at i24NEWS.

Israel’s two largest parties, Likud and Kachol Lavan, denied reports on Sunday that discussions are underway to cancel the planned September elections and form a unity government. According to Hebrew language media outlets, the plan involved mustering the votes of 80 MKs to cancel the law that dispersed the Knesset after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition earlier this month. Such a move would reportedly also automatically cancel the planned elections. An official in Netanyahu’s Likud Party, however, was quick to reject the claim, telling The Times of Israel that he was unaware of any such efforts. Kachol Lavan also firmly refuted the report, saying in a statement, “There is only one option to cancel the elections — that Netanya...
Jerusalem - An Israeli Cabinet minister and ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is questioning a key component of the Trump administration’s new Mideast peace plan. Tzachi Hanegbi, minister for regional cooperation, said Sunday that the U.S. proposal for a land link between the West Bank and Gaza Strip is “irrelevant” as long as the Hamas militant group controls Gaza. The $50 billion economic plan, unveiled Saturday, calls for a travel corridor between the two Palestinian areas through Israel. “It will be relevant when Gaza will stop being a pro-Iranian terror kingdom, meaning it’s irrelevant today and in the foreseeable future,” Hanegbi told Israel’s Kan Radio. The U.S. is holding a two-day conference in Bahrain this week. The Palestinia...
Little Rock, AR -  Press secretary Sarah Sanders seems to be in an enviable position as she leaves the White House for a possible run for governor in her home state of Arkansas. She has the tacit endorsement of a president popular in the state and political connections that go back to her dad Mike Huckabee’s more than 10 years as governor. Since her departure was announced this month, Sanders hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a run for public office when she returns to Arkansas later this summer. Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who was reelected last year, is barred by term limits from running again in 2022. Other White House officials who left have remained in the public eye by writing books and hitting the lecture circuit, but none has made a high-profile run for off...
Charlottesville, VA - The avowed white supremacist who plowed his car into counterdemonstrators opposing a white nationalist rally in Virginia two years ago, killing one person and injuring dozens, has asked a judge for mercy and a sentence shorter than life in prison. Lawyers for James Alex Fields Jr., 22, said in a sentencing memo submitted in court documents Friday that the defendant should not spend his entire life in prison because of his age, a traumatic childhood and a history of mental illness. Fields pleaded guilty to federal hate crimes in March and is set to be sentenced on June 28. “No amount of punishment imposed on James can repair the damage he caused to dozens of innocent people. But this Court should find that retribution has limits,” his attorneys wrote. Bu...

Jerusalem - U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said Sunday that Iran should not “mistake U.S. prudence and discretion for weakness,” after the U.S. abruptly called off military strikes against the Iran in response to the shooting down of an unmanned American surveillance drone. Bolton’s tough message seemed to be aimed not only at Tehran, but also at reassuring key U.S. allies that the White House remains committed to maintaining pressure on Iran. Israel, along with Arab countries in the Gulf, considers Iran to be their greatest threat, and Trump’s last-minute about face appears to have raised questions about U.S. willingness to use force against the Islamic Republic. The downing of the aircraft on Thursday marked a new high in the rising tensions between ...
