Jerusalem -  Israel’s top court disqualified on Sunday a far-right candidate from next month’s national ballot and approved the candidacy of an Arab party, overturning March 6 decisions by the election board, a court statement said. The Central Elections Committee had voted to bar the joint Arab party Raam-Balad from the election in accordance with a motion filed by conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party. Likud claims the Balad faction wants to eliminate Israel as a Jewish state and backs Palestinian and Lebanese militants. Raam-Balad describes itself as a democratic movement opposed to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. “We have a fierce argument with Zionism,” Mansour Abbas, who heads the Raam faction, to...

The saga behind the Iranian phone hacking incident that has stoked the political war between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin and Netanyahu and his top challenger Benny Gantz continues to color the lead up to the April 9th elections. The Blue and White appealed to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, demanding that he open an investigation into the leak that Iran had hacked party leader Benny Gantz’s cell phone. The party hinted that it believes that the Prime Minister’s Office is responsible for the leak. Although the appeal to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit does not mention Netanyahu by name, it says the trail of evidence leads to “a very specific office in Jerusalem.” “Leaking an event with potentially security-related characteristics constitutes a s...

Officials say 157 people from 35 different countries were killed when the Nairobi-bound plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 and an earlier Lion Air crash have prompted the United States and other countries to ground Boeing 737 Max 8 planes. The U.S.-based Boeing faces the challenge of proving the jets are safe to fly amid suspicions that faulty sensors and software contributed to the two crashes in less th...

Jeanine Pirro is off Fox News prime time — and President Trump is not thrilled about it. Fox News removed Ms. Pirro’s program, “Justice With Judge Jeanine,” from its usual 9 p.m. time slot on Saturday, one week after the network took the rare step of publicly rebuking the host for an on-air monologue that questioned a Muslim lawmaker’s loyalty to the United States. Ms. Pirro has been formally suspended by the network because of her remarks, according to a person told of the decision who requested anonymity to describe sensitive discussions. In a statement, Fox News declined to address the host’s status. “We are not commenting on internal scheduling matters,” the network said. At least one regular viewer of Ms. Pirro ...

Her announcement that she was joining the dozen-plus candidates who want to challenge Trump came in a nearly three-minute video produced by her campaign and released early in the morning. She says the national anthem poses this question: “Will brave win?” “Well, it hasn’t always, and it isn’t right now,” she says. “Brave doesn’t pit people against each other. Brave doesn’t put money over lives. B...
Addis Ababa - Grieving family members of victims of the Ethiopian air disaster are being given sacks of earth to bury in place of the remains of their loved ones. Officials have begun delivering bags of earth to family members of the 157 victims of the crash instead of the remains of their loved ones because the identification process is going to take such a long time. Families are being given a 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) sack of scorched earth taken from the crash sites, members of two different families told The Associated Press. They spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid any possible government reprisal. An Ethiopian government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters also confirmed the deliveries of soil. “The soil came...
Washington -  President Donald Trump played down any threat posed by white nationalism after the gunman accused of the New Zealand mosque massacre called the president “a symbol of renewed white identity.” Trump, whose own previous responses to the movement have drawn scrutiny, expressed sympathy for the victims who died at “places of worship turned into scenes of evil killing.” But he declined to join expressions of mounting concern about white nationalism. When asked whether he thought it was a rising threat around the world, he responded, “I don’t really.” “I think it’s a small group of people that have very, very serious problems, I guess,” Trump said Friday. “If you look at what happened in New Zealand, perhaps t...

The former first daughter last month tweeted to her 2.4 million followers criticising Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar for comments about Israel that included what some saw as anti-Semitic stereotypes. “Co-signed as an American,” Clinton tweeted in response to a tweet condemning Omar. “We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.” Dweik, a Muslim Palestinian, and Asaf, a Jewish Israeli American, took offence to Clinto...
