The terrorist who set out on a murderous spree in the Ariel Junction this morning (Sunday) took refuge in the "no-man's land" that has been growing in the area: an illegal cluster of shops that has flourished in the "no-go zone."

The manhunt for the perpetrator of this morning's terror rampage in the Ariel Junction is still underway, but the initial investigation of this morning's events has uncovered the start of the trail of bloodshed: The terrorist launched his murderous spree from the building supply store adjacent to the Ariel Junction.

This shop is one of the growing number of illegal businesses that have sprung up over the past number of years in the Ariel Junction vicinity. No significant law enforcement measures have been taken against these pirate operations, and the burgeoning commercial center has become a sort of ex-territorial no man's land.

The Civil Administration issued demolition orders against the structures comprising this cluster, but in practice has never enforced the law or carried out these orders.

Regavim's spokesperson: "The terrorist took advantage of a situation that clearly illustrates the "broken windows theory:" When 'minor' violations of the law are overlooked or neglected, the result is a surge in more serious crime. The illegal compound that served as the terrorist's hiding place and staging ground can and must be demolished – better late than never."
