ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - Ratings agency Moody's has downgraded Turkey's credit rating deeper into "junk" status and slapped a "negative" rating on its outlook. It's the latest blow to the country whose currency, the lira, has taken a battering amid concerns about fundamental economic problems and a diplomatic and trade dispute with the United States. Moody's stripped Turkey of its investment-grade rating in 2016 and Friday's move lowered it one rung further. The agency says the downgrade was triggered by what it described as a further weakening of Turkey's public institutions and a related reduction in the predictability of Turkish policy making. Debt rating downgrades typically mean higher borrowing costs as investors demand steeper interest rates to take on ...
BEIRUT (AP) — Hezbollah says its leader has met with a delegation from Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Lebanese militant group said Sunday that Hassan Nasrallah met with a delegation headed by Houthi spokesman Mohamad Abdelsalam to discuss the latest developments in Yemen's civil war. Hezbollah is believed to train and support the Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels, who are at war with a Saudi-led coalition allied with Yemen's internationally recognized government. Hezbollah, which is also an Iran-allied Shiite group, says the Houthis are fighting a war against Saudi and American imperialism. Iran supports the Houthis but denies arming them. Saudi Arabia and Iran are bitter regional rivals.
THE FOLLOWING IS VIA YWN Deputy Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman is a strong proponent of vaccinations for children, and as such, he has instructed ministry officials to look into the possibility of making vaccinations mandatory. This is in light of an increase in the number of parents preferring not to have their children vaccinated, and an increase in the spread of illness as a result. Ministry officials are probing the legalities of a policy that would condition a child’s acceptance in kindergartens on showing the child’s vaccination record. MK (Likud) Oren Chazan initiated a bill that would prevent children who are unvaccinated from entering kindergarten. Read more at YWN
Federal authorities investigating whether President Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, Michael D. Cohen, committed bank and tax fraud have zeroed in on well over $20 million in loans obtained by taxi businesses that he and his family own, according to people familiar with the matter. Investigators are also examining whether Mr. Cohen violated campaign finance or other laws by helping to arrange financial deals to secure the silence of women who said they had affairs with Mr. Trump. The inquiry has entered the final stage and prosecutors are considering filing charges by the end of August, two of the people said. Any criminal charges against Mr. Cohen would deal a significant blow to the president. Mr. Cohen, 52, worked for the president’s company, the Trump Organiz...
Daily Telegraph reveals Labour leader attended conference with Hamas leader Husam Badran who was jailed in Israel over terror. British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn attended a conference with a convicted Hamas leader who was jailed in Israel for his role in orchestrating a string of terrorist attacks that killed more than 100 people, The Daily Telegraph revealed on Sunday. According to the report, the Labour leader hosted a panel discussion at a conference attended by a number of senior Hamas officials, including Husam Badran, who was given a 17-year sentence for his involvement in terrorist atrocities committed during the Second Intifada between 2001 and 2002. He was joined at the conference by Khaled Mashaal, the former leader of Hamas’ political bureau, who ...
THE FOLLOWING IS VIA YWN In what some are calling “a miracle,” sounds of explosions were heard in Ponevezh Yeshiva before Shabbos ended. A number of lights apparently fell from the ceiling, and B’chasdei Hashem, there were no injuries and damage was relatively light. There was a measure of panic however, as it was dark and the many bochrim present were uncertain as to the cause of the explosive sounds. ATLANTA (AP) — Women are not just running for office in record numbers this year — they are winning. More women than ever before have won major party primaries for governor, U.S. Senate and House this year — setting a U.S. record and paving the way for November battles that could significantly increase the number of women in elected office and change the public debate on issues such as health care, immigration, abortion rights, education and gun control. Some of these candidates could also play a pivotal role in whether Democrats are able to take control of the U.S. House. Most of these female hopefuls are Democrats, some of whom are first-time candidates who say their motivation to run sprang from President Donald Trump’s election and Republican control of Congre...
WASHINGTON (AP) — Steve Bannon has a dire warning for Republicans. During a Sunday interview with The Associated Press, the former chief strategist to President Donald Trump said he believes the GOP would lose 35 to 40 seats in the House if the election were held today, thereby ceding their majority to Democrats he’s convinced will pursue impeachment. He argued there’s still time to turn that around and is launching a group, Citizens of the American Republic, to pitch the election as a vote to protect Trump from that outcome. “You can’t look at this as a midterm and you can’t run it out of the traditional Republican playbook. If you do that, you’re going to get smoked,” said Bannon, arguing that Republicans must redouble efforts against mot...
Wanting back the remains of their killed son in order to have a proper Jewish burial, the parents of slain Israel Defense Forces Lt. Hadar Goldin slammed the chance of a ceasefire with the terrorist group Hamas by either the United States, the European Union or Israel without the return of remains being held by Hamas. Goldin was killed in August 2014 during a ceasefire from “Operation Protective Edge” when the IDF went into Gaza to eliminate missile-launching sites and terror tunnels. The ceasefire—brokered by the United Nations and the United States, and agreed to by both Israel and Hamas—was violated by the latter in its attempt to kidnap and murder Israeli soldiers who were complying with it. “How on earth can there be an agreement with Hamas for the rebu...
President Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani on Sunday called former CIA Director John Brennan one of the “biggest frauds” in U.S. history. “My payment for this investigation and my representation of the President is to get to depose John Brennan, one of the biggest, biggest frauds in the history of this country,” Giuliani said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures. Trump revoked Brennan’s security clearance last Wednesday, igniting a fierce backlash against the administration but also sparking criticism of Brennan. Read more at The Hill.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said on Sunday that a new Iran Action Group in the US State Department aimed to overthrow the Islamic Republic, but would fail. He was speaking on the 65th anniversary of a US-backed coup that overthrew a democratically elected Iranian prime minister, an occasion when anti-American sentiment runs particularly high in the Islamic Republic. Comparing fresh US sanctions on Tehran imposed by President Donald Trump with the 1953 coup that ousted nationalist Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh, Zarif said Tehran will not let history repeat itself. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday named senior policy adviser Brian Hook as special representative for Iran in charge of the Iran Action Group to coordinate Trump’s pressure campa...
EpiPen, a life-saving allergy treatment widely criticized for its high price tag, will get generic competition for the first time since the autoinjector was approved more than two decades ago. The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday cleared Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.’s generic EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. for sale, several years after the Israeli drugmaker filed for approval. Mylan NV has attempted to thwart competition from Teva, claiming that differences in how the epinephrine-injecting devices work would confuse patients. While Teva’s device isn’t identical to the EpiPen, it will be fully substitutable at the pharmacy, the FDA said. Mylan once took in about $1 billion a year in EpiPen sales, and before Thursday’s action it faced little direct competition...
CNN, along with six other far-left media outlets (the Washington Post, BuzzFeed, Politico, the New York Times, NBC, and the AP) sued for the release of the names and home addresses of all of the Manafort jurors, a move that is both disturbing and almost unprecedented. Manafort’s fate now sits with the jury, and after two days of deliberations, anti-Trump media outlets like CNN are becoming concerned Manafort could be acquitted, which would be a major blow to Mueller’s credibility and his ability to remove Trump from office — an outcome the establishment media are desperate to orchestrate. This is not the first time that CNN and other media outlets have requested to publicize names and information of private citizens. Read more at BREITBART.

Richard Hudson, acting chief of Law Enforcement Operations Directorate with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), said at a hearing on Thursday that, in recent months, agents have apprehended 41,000 children without parents or guardians and encountered as many as a quarter of a million since 2014 at the U.S. border with Mexico. “Between Oct. 1, 2017, and July 31, 2018, more than 41,000 UACs have been apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol,” Hudson said, noting that 7,000 of those were deemed inadmissible at ports of entry. “Since 2014, when we saw the first surge of UACs, CBP has encountered nearly 250,000 UAC’s along the southwest border,” Hudson said. Iran will unveil a new fighter jet this week as part of the nation’s plan to boost its defense capability, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said, in a show of force as the country faces bruising new U.S. sanctions. Development of “missile capabilities, considered as our defensive deterrent power, will remain Iran’s top priority despite crippling economic sanctions imposed by the U.S.,” Hatami was quoted as saying Saturday on state TV, state-run Mehr news agency reported. “If any country wants to threaten our security, it will receive a crushing response.” Earlier this month, Iran unveiled a new generation of missiles dubbed the “Fateh Mobin,” citing the need to protect the nation. Iran’s ballistic missile program is one ...
A massive quake of magnitude 8.2 struck in the Pacific Ocean close to Fiji and Tonga on Sunday but it was so deep that it was not expected to cause any damage, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center also said the quake was too deep to cause a tsunami. The quake was 347.7 miles (560 km) below the Earth which would have dampened the shaking at the surface. President Donald Trump reportedly told Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the White House a few weeks ago that, in the absence of a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israel will have a prime minister named Muhammad in a few years time. King Abdullah related to reporters that he had told Trump, “Many young Palestinians no longer want two states. They want one state with equal rights. The result would be Israel losing its Jewish character.” As quoted by Channel 10, Trump then replied, “There’s logic in that. [If there’s one state], in a few years the Israeli prime minister’s name will be Muhammad.” Elsewhere in the conversation, as quoted by the TV report, the king reportedly urged Trump, “Don’t present your [pea...
U.S. officials are concerned that not only Russia but also China, Iran and North Korea will try to meddle in this fall’s midterm elections, national security adviser John Bolton said Sunday. “Well, I can say definitively that it’s a sufficient national security concern about Chinese meddling, Iranian meddling and North Korean meddling that we’re taking steps to try and prevent it,” Bolton said on ABC News’ “This Week” when asked about a tweet by President Donald Trump saying that “all the fools” are focused on election meddling by Russia alone. “So all four of these countries, really.” Bolton said elections are not the only potential targets for hostile international hackers, and he cited a “whole range of vuln...
