TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey is saying farewell to Republican Gov. Chris Christie and hello to Democrat Phil Murphy. The wealthy former Obama administration diplomat and businessman is to take the oath of office Tuesday at a ceremony in Trenton. Christie will then return to life as a private citizen after two terms as governor and nearly a decade as U.S. attorney in the state. It's hard to imagine New Jersey getting a higher contrast in its 56th governor. Christie is a friend and one-time adviser to Republican President Donald Trump and has conservative views on taxes, opposes marijuana legalization and fights bitterly with labor unions. Murphy opposes Trump on health care, immigration and taxes. He promises to raise taxes on millionaires and legalize recreational mariju...

With many travelers having just arrived in Eretz Yisroel for the Yarchei Kallah, orchestrated by the Agudah’s Torah Projects Commission, participants headed directly to the hospital which was founded in 1990 to serve the more than 100,000 residents of the Bnei Brak area. Israeli leaders slammed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Monday for a fiery, invective-filled speech against President Donald Trump, in which he proclaimed the U.S. role as arbiter of the Mideast conflict over, attacked the administration's envoys and described Israel as a colonial conspiracy. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Abbas had "lost his senses" and had given up on the prospect of peace negotiations in favor of open confrontation with both Israel and the United States. Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the pro-settler Jewish Home Party, said the speech represented Abbas' swan song. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a trip to India, said Abbas had "tore off the mask" and exposed what he called the truth. "The root of the confli...
The Israeli government announced Monday that it would no longer permit members of the Hamas terrorist group or their immediate family members in Gaza to enter Israel with entry permits issued out of humanitarian concerns, including to seek medical treatment in Israeli hospitals, as opposed to medical facilities in the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made Monday after the government acknowledged to the Supreme Court that it had hitherto not fully implemented a security cabinet decision which included sanctions targeting Hamas leadership. Last November, a legal team assembled by the Goldin family accused the government of not implementing the cabinet decision, and filed an appeal with the Supreme Court to intervene. In August 2014, IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul were killed dur...
JAKARTA, Indonesia — A mezzanine floor inside the Jakarta Stock Exchange tower collapsed on Monday, injuring nearly 80 people and forcing a chaotic evacuation. Security camera footage circulated online showed the collapse, with a group of people plunging several meters (feet) to the ground as the structure gave way beneath them. People fled the building through a lobby strewn with debris. Emergency personnel tended to the injured on the grass and pavement outside the tower. National police spokesman Setyo Wasisto said most of the injured were college students from Palembang in Sumatra who were visiting the stock exchange as part of a study tour. Wasisto ruled out terrorism as a cause of the collapse. “There is no bomb element in the incident,” he said. Figures rel...
HONOLULU (AP) — It was a beautiful Hawaii morning: nice breeze, blue skies, birds chirping. Then terror struck. We were up early, my daughter and I, because this Saturday morning was her first day of ice skating lessons, a day we had been talking about and looking forward to for months. We were also having construction done in our Honolulu apartment, which sits atop a hill overlooking the Nuuanu Valley and, in the distance, Pearl Harbor. So, I had been frantically clearing out the living room and covering our things with sheets so they wouldn't be smothered in sawdust. We got her skating clothes on and tacked up the living room, and I was just about to hop in the shower when, around 8:07 a.m., my phone started the aggressive, long pulsating tone that normally accompanies a fl...

Joe Logan, confirms with U.S. Pacific Command that there was no missile launch. Honolulu police are notified of the false alarm. 8:13 a.m. — The state issues a cancellation that prevents the message from...
