Costco will anchor the redevelopment of the former Owings Mills Mall site, Baltimore County officials said.
Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Councilman Julian E. Jones, Jr. and Tom Simmons, president of the Mid-Atlantic region for Kimco Realty, joined together to make the announcement Tuesday morning.
Officials introduced plans for Mill Station with Costco anchoring the 575,000-square-foot Kimco Signature Series development at the former Owings Mills Mall site.
The new, open-air shopping destination will feature national, regional and local retailers, a variety of dining options, ample parking, green space and pedestrian-friendly walkways, officials said.

A fire broke out near the tziyun of Rav Nachman ZT”L in Uman on Tuesday morning, 3 Kislev. United Hatzalah personnel on location extricated the Sifrei Torah from the site as heavy smoke bellowed from the fire.
As a result of the fire electricity was interrupted at the tziyun. Ichud Breslov personnel on location worked to restore electricity as fast as possible. B’chasdei Hashem, there were no injuries.
In another United Hatzalah Ukraine matter, a course certifying new EMTs completed on Monday evening and a number of rabbonim from the local Breslov community participated in the ceremony.

New Jersey will move toward a $15 minimum wage next year, Democratic Gov.-elect Phil Murphy pledged on Monday alongside fellow Democrats who control the Legislature.
“This is as high on the priority list as anything we’ve got,” said Murphy, who made a $15 minimum wage a centerpiece of his campaign, but stopped short of promising the legislation would be the first he enacts.
Murphy’s appearance at the statehouse with Senate President Steve Sweeney, incoming Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross was the incoming governor’s first public event with legislative leaders.

Construction workers in Germany have unearthed a giant concrete swastika on a sports field in the northern city of Hamburg.
The German news agency dpa reported Tuesday workers were digging in the ground with an excavator to build changing rooms when they suddenly hit the four-by-four meter (13-by-13 foot) Nazi symbol.
Members of the sports club at the Hein-Kling stadium in the city’s Billstedt district told dpa the swastika served as a foundation for a monument that was torn down decades ago.
City officials say they want the swastika, which was buried 40 centimeters (1.3 feet) below the ground, gone as quickly as possible. Because it’s too heavy to be transported away, they are planning to destroy it with jackhammers.

The Trump administration on Monday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the latest travel ban to take full effect.
A federal appeals court ruling last week allowed President Donald Trump’s newest version of the ban to partially take effect. That ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals allowed the administration to ban people from six mostly Muslim countries unless they have a “bona fide” relationship with someone in the U.S.
Last month, a federal judge in Hawaii had blocked most of Trump’s third travel ban just before it was due to take effect. A judge in Maryland separately blocked it to a lesser degree, saying Trump could bar people from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen as long as they did not have “bona fide” relationships ...

A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order to cut funding from cities that limit cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities.
U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the administration’s argument that the executive order applies only to a relatively small pot of money and said Trump cannot set new conditions on spending approved by Congress.
The judge had previously made the same arguments in a ruling that put a temporary hold on the executive order targeting so-called sanctuary cities. The Trump administration has appealed that decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Egypt’s envoy to Israel visited the Knesset on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the late President Anwar Sadat’s historic trip to Jerusalem that lay the groundwork for the 1979 peace treaty between the two countries.
While at the Knesset, Ambassador Hazem Khairat told Israeli legislators, “There is a real opportunity to open a new page with the Arab neighbors, based on coexistence and mutual understanding for a better future leading to peace.”

The White House says President Donald Trump plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
Trump and Putin spoke informally several times last week when they attended a summit in Vietnam. They agreed on a number of principles for the future of war-torn Syria.

Some call it the great MO versus Yeshivish Community Divide. However, the question has not yet entered the list of “Shidduch questions” that are generally posed to parents of children who have now entered the phase of dating. Is it halachically proper to formally celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey dinner with one’s family?
This is not to say that the Yeshiva community does not express appreciation for the wonderful freedoms that this country has championed both for its citizens and for peoples throughout the world.

Chareidi Paratroopers from Chetz (Arrow) Company of 202nd Paratroops Battalion, who were conscripted only three months ago, carried out their final training drill in preparation for their first landing which they will be executing in the coming days. A federal investigation will look into possible civil rights violations by police in the St. Louis area in the two months since protests broke out after a white former police officer was acquitted in the shooting death of a black suspect.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced the investigation in a statement Monday. The FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office in St. Louis also will help with the investigation.

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today the Florida Department of Health is announcing that a locally transmitted case of Zika has been confirmed in Miami-Dade County. At this time there is no evidence of ongoing, active transmission of Zika. According to CDC guidance, this isolated case does not constitute a Zika zone.
According to established protocol, the department notified mosquito control of the suspected case and appropriate mosquito reduction activities have occurred and will continue. If the department identifies any area where ongoing, active transmission of Zika is taking place, we will notify the public immediately.

The tourism agency NYC & Company on Monday launched a new campaign called “True York City” designed to promote iconic attractions as well as unique experiences, neighborhoods and local businesses.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered a halt to all contacts with the U.S. after it threatened to close his authority’s mission in Washington, and won’t allow the issue to be used as leverage in any Middle East peace talks, a senior Palestinian official said.
Abbas’s office sent a note to government departments and embassies stating that “any meeting with an American official is banned regardless of the reason until they back down and treat us fairly,” Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Palestinian Authority administration, said late on Monday. Fox News Channel host Jeanine Pirro has been issued a speeding ticket for driving 119 mph (192 kph) in a 65 mph (105 kph) zone in upstate New York.
The Daily News reports the former Westchester County district attorney was stopped by a trooper on Sunday afternoon in Tioga County. A state police spokesman says he doesn’t know what type of car Pirro was driving or whether she had any passengers.
Pirro says in a statement through Fox News Channel she had been driving for hours to visit her ailing mother and didn’t realize how fast she was going. She says she will “pay the consequences.”
The ticket is returnable Jan. 8.
