The ads leap out from the pages of almost any gun magazine: Soldiers wearing greasepaint and camouflage wield military-style rifles depicted as essential to the American way of life. A promotional spot by the Mossberg brand boasts of weapons “engineered to the specs of freedom and independence.”
The ad campaigns by major gun makers did not pause after mass shootings at a Las Vegas country music concert and a Texas church, and the slick messages are big drivers of sales ahead of Black Friday, by far the heaviest shopping day each year for firearms.

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today the Florida Department of Health is announcing that a locally transmitted case of Zika has been confirmed in Miami-Dade County. At this time there is no evidence of ongoing, active transmission of Zika. According to CDC guidance, this isolated case does not constitute a Zika zone.
According to established protocol, the department notified mosquito control of the suspected case and appropriate mosquito reduction activities have occurred and will continue. If the department identifies any area where ongoing, active transmission of Zika is taking place, we will notify the public immediately.
The department reminds residents and health care providers to consider a Zika test if symptoms are consistent with the virus infection.

The tourism agency NYC & Company on Monday launched a new campaign called “True York City” designed to promote iconic attractions as well as unique experiences, neighborhoods and local businesses.
The $15 million marketing campaign in the U.S. and 16 other countries will use the phrase “Famous Original New York City” on billboards, ads, Instagram and other social media. A website at nycgo.com/famousoriginal launched Monday with video, photos and stories.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered a halt to all contacts with the U.S. after it threatened to close his authority’s mission in Washington, and won’t allow the issue to be used as leverage in any Middle East peace talks, a senior Palestinian official said.
Abbas’s office sent a note to government departments and embassies stating that “any meeting with an American official is banned regardless of the reason until they back down and treat us fairly,” Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Palestinian Authority administration, said late on Monday. The suspension of contacts doesn’t amount to severing diplomatic relations, he said.

Fox News Channel host Jeanine Pirro has been issued a speeding ticket for driving 119 mph (192 kph) in a 65 mph (105 kph) zone in upstate New York.
The Daily News reports the former Westchester County district attorney was stopped by a trooper on Sunday afternoon in Tioga County. A state police spokesman says he doesn’t know what type of car Pirro was driving or whether she had any passengers.
Pirro says in a statement through Fox News Channel she had been driving for hours to visit her ailing mother and didn’t realize how fast she was going. She says she will “pay the consequences.”
The ticket is returnable Jan. 8.

State and local authorities are trying to determine what triggered explosions and a fire at a cosmetics factory in New York’s Hudson Valley that killed one employee and injure nearly three dozen other workers and firefighters.
The blasts occurred about 25 minutes apart Monday morning at Verla International in the Orange County town of New Windsor, 55 miles (88 kilometers) north of New York City.
Seven firefighters from the city of Newburgh were among the injured when they were caught in the second explosion after responding to the first blast.

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has resigned, parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda says.
A letter from Mr Mugabe said the decision was voluntary, Reuters news agency reports.
The surprise announcement came as lawmakers debated an impeachment motion against Mr Mugabe in a joint sitting of parliament.
Mr Mugabe had previously refused to resign despite last week's military takeover, and days of protests.
He has been in power since independence in 1980.

Last week on Monday a newly-wed couple tied the knot in Bnei Brak, bringing another happy family into the larger family of Bnei Yisroel. Except, it was discovered on Friday night during their Sheva Brachos that there seemed to be a problem with one of the rings.
After Sheva Brachos concluded on Friday night, the bride told her sister that the ring which she was wearing was not the one which was originally ordered by the couple and that there was some sort of issue with the order.
The story hit the couple and their families very hard. They inquired with rabbinical authorities with regards to how to proceed. Special counsel Robert Mueller says a lawyer for one of Donald Trump’s former campaign aides may have a conflict of interest.
Mueller is investigating possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.
In court papers Monday, he said Walter Mack, the attorney for Rick Gates, may have a conflict. Gates has pleaded not guilty to federal money laundering and other charges for behavior as far back as 2012.
Mack also represents a business associate of Gates who federal prosecutors in New York have charged with bilking movie investors of millions of dollars.
The two cases aren’t related, but Mueller says he’s identified recent financial transactions between the two men.

On Monday afternoon, 2 Kislev, Arabs hurled stones at a bus carrying school children as it passed Tuqwa, the Arab village next to Yishuv Tekoa in eastern Gush Etzion. One can see the bus is carrying children by the yellow sign on the middle of the windshield.
B’chasdei Hashem the stones did not penetrate the glass so there were no injuries, just damage to the bus.
While these attacks are unfortunately no infrequent, they are usually not reported if there are no injuries resulting.

New York -- Ikea relaunched a recall of 29 million chests and dressers Tuesday after the death of an eighth child.
CEO Lars Petersson said Ikea wants to increase awareness of the recall campaign for several types of chest and dressers that can easily tip over if not properly anchored to a wall.
The death of a California toddler, who was found trapped underneath an Ikea Malm dresser in May, has raised questions about whether Ikea has effectively spread the word about the recall, which was first announced in June 2016. The Swedish retailer and the federal safety regulators are asking customers to take immediate action to secure the dressers, or to return them.

Washington -- The tax plan advanced by House Republicans last week will spur economic growth, but still add more than $1 trillion to the deficit, according to a new study released Monday.
The macroeconomic analysis from the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, finds that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would boost economic output by .6 percent of gross domestic product in 2018, and .3 percent in a decade.
The economic growth would provide $169 billion in additional tax revenue for the federal government over the next decade, according to the analysis. The entire tax package is expected to add $1.4 trillion to the deficit over the same period of time.

North Korea steps up repression of own citizens as US declares rogue regime a state sponsor of terror.
North Korea stepped up its repression of its own citizens by banning drinking and singing, the Yonhap news agency reported Monday.
According to the report, North Korean citizens are banned from attending “any gatherings related to drinking, singing and other entertainment."
