Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein responds to social media posts against President Reuven Rivlin after the latter refused to pardon former IDF soldier Elor Azariya. Postings against the president include photos with him wearing a kafia, as well as with a PLO flag backdrop saying, “You are not my president”. Edelstein explains legitimate differences of opinion are permitted and freedom of speech is important, but incitement, such as the items mentioned above, must be stopped. He calls this the ‘incitement industry’ that exists over recent years, insisting it must be stopped. He explains their only motive is to incite and Chas V’sholom there are those who will take the incitement one step further and therefore, it is worthwhile that it is stopped a step earl...
Jury selection for a trial surrounding a conspiracy to help Iran evade economic sanctions was postponed Monday, after lawyers in the case held a closed-door meeting with the judge and the star defendant, an international gold trader who had been trying to broker a diplomatic solution to the case, was a no-show. The case against Reza Zarrab, a citizen of Turkey and Iran, has strained relations between the U.S. and Turkey. On Monday, the government there depicted the trial as a conspiracy, with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag describing Zarrab as a “hostage” who he claimed was being forced to testify against Turkey. But Zarrab wasn’t in court early Monday, and had not participated in pre-trial activities for weeks. Zarrab’s criminal lawyer, Benjamin...
Turkish media reports are quoting an adviser to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying it’s time for Turkey to review its membership in the NATO military alliance. Yalcin Topcu’s comments, reported by Cumhuriyet and other media on Monday, came days after Turkey withdrew some 40 troops from a NATO drill in Norway after the country’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and Erdogan himself were depicted as enemies. NATO’s secretary-general and Norway’s government apologized to Turkey over the incident, which Turkish officials have described as one of the “greatest scandals” in the alliance’s history. Topcu said: “This organization, which is engaged in all kinds of hostile attitudes toward a member, is not a must for us. Our presence...
The Justice Department is suing AT&T to stop its $85 billion purchase of Time Warner, setting the stage for an epic legal battle with the telecom giant. The government claims that consumer cable bills will rise if the merger goes through, saying the deal would “substantially lessen competition, resulting in higher prices and less innovation for millions of Americans.” AT&T would be able charge rival distributors such as cable companies “hundreds of millions of dollars more per year” for Time Warner’s networks, the Department of Justice charged in a press release. Those payments are ultimately passed down to consumers through their cable bills. The government also said the combined company would use its power to slow the TV industry’s shif...
Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita released a letter on Sunday, Rosh Chodesh Kislev, regarding missionary activities around Israel. Rav Yosef calls on the tzibur at large to be aware of the threat that exists, as they distribute CDs and literature, which on the service appears innocent. In the letter to his Bureau Chief Rav Yitzchak Daniel, he reveals that Yad L’Achim has passed missionary materials that it found in various areas around the country. Yad L’Achim calls upon Rav Yosef to use his office to do whatever possible to act against the missionaries. Yad L’Achim reports that the missionaries are working without interruption throughout the country, working to persuade people to leave their religion for their way of life.
Assembly Member Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) applauded the U.S. Department of Justice after the Department committed to pursue every avenue to remove Nazi Jakiw Palij from the United States. The Department of Justice was responding to Hikind’s relentless effort to bring justice to Palij, a known Nazi War Criminal who continues to live comfortably in Queens, NY. “I have been reaching out to high-level members of the Trump Administration,” said Hikind, the son of Holocaust survivors who insists that the President personally take up this issue. “The rights and freedoms we enjoy in America should not extend to those who facilitated the death of countless innocent people. Palij’s presence here mocks the memory of the millions who perished. There is no question of his g...
DETROIT — An auto safety group is asking the government for a recall of Chrysler Pacifica minivans over complaints that the engines can stall without warning. The Center for Auto Safety petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Monday, asking for an investigation and a recall of 150,000 minivans from the 2017 model year. The group says over 50 people have complained to the government about stalling and Fiat Chrysler hasn’t been able to fix the problem. Some have complained that the vans have stalled several times. Fiat Chrysler says it takes customer concerns seriously and doesn’t know of any crashes or injuries due to the issue. The company says it’s monitoring data and will respond if it shows a safety defect. The petition, filed on behalf ...
Baltimore County police have identified the Parkville woman they say fabricated the report of an attempted carjacking and armed robbery at Towson Town Center. Pamela Davis, 46, of the unit block of Ashlar Hill Court in Parkville was charged in a summons with two counts of false statement to an officer. A trial is set for Jan. 16 at district court in Towson, according to online court records. Police say the woman's story shifted over time, and that surveillance footage countered her claim any incident ever took place. County police called in resources including air support and K9 units in pursuit of the two suspects they now say were never there.
Baltimore police Commissioner Kevin Davis said an autopsy performed Sunday on the body of Detective Sean Suiter caused investigators to "think about this murder in a different way" and discover "significant" new evidence. While Davis was tight-lipped about what the autopsy revealed and new evidence was found, the discovery did lead police to continue to hold the compact crime scene where the shooting took place for at least the next day, Davis said. However, investigators did release the surrounding area. Preempting questions about the decision to hold the area as a crime scene for so long, Davis said he would rather endure criticism from the ACLU than from Suiter's grieving widow. "I would love to respond to a crime scene with our crime scene investigators and press start on a sto...

FIRST TRIP TO AMERICA Rav Aharon came to the United States in 1935 to raise funds for the Yeshiva. He arrived on September 10th, 1935 having left Europe from Cherbourg, France aboard the Majestic. He stayed by his friend, Rabbi Kudensky of 6 Rutger Street in Manhattan. Rabbi Kudensky owned a Seforim store and was active in Agudas haRabbonim. He remained for eleven months because the financial situation was so bleak. A reception was held in Manhattan in his honor which included the names of some of New York’s most prominent Rabbis. Recognition was given to Rav Aharon as one of the leading Rabbis of the generation. Rav Aharon, however, was not particularly enamored by prominent pulpit Rabbis, and did not develop extensive contacts with them, even later in life. Even though he was ...
Authorities were scouring West Texas on Monday for those behind an apparent attack that killed one U.S. border agent and injured another. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a statement Sunday that was thin on details about what happened, saying the two agents “were responding to activity” while on patrol near Interstate 10 in the area of Van Horn, which is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from the border with Mexico and about 110 miles (175 kilometers) southeast of El Paso. CBP spokesman Douglas Mosier said 36-year-old agent Rogelio Martinez and his partner were transported to a hospital, where Martinez died. Martinez’s partner, whose name hasn’t been released, is in serious condition. Elected officials referred to it as an attack, with Gov. Greg Abbot...

Mumbai - India has cancelled a massive multi-million dollar missile deal with Israel, the Indian press reported on Monday, in what would be a major blow to flourishing Israeli-Indian ties. According to the report, a 2014 decision by New Delhi to purchase Rafael Advanced Defense System’s Spike anti-tank guided missile, had been overturned. Instead, the Indian Express reported, the Indian government has asked the country’s Defense Research and Development Organization to develop its own anti-tank missile. India had decided to purchase the Spike missile in 2014, selecting Israel’s government-owned Rafael defense contractor over a rival US offer of Javelin missiles that Washington had lobbied hard to win. According to reports at the time,...read more at JPost
The White House says it’s willing to strike a health-care provision from Senate legislation to cut taxes and overhaul the tax code if the provision becomes an impediment to passing one of President Donald Trump’s top legislative priorities. The provision would repeal a requirement that everyone in the U.S. have health insurance or pay a fine, but has emerged as a major sticking point for Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, whose vote the White House needs. Collins said Sunday that the issue should be dealt with separately. Trump’s budget director, Mick Mulvaney, said the White House is open to scrapping the provision, which would repeal a key component of the Affordable Care Act health law enacted by President Barack Obama. Trump had pressed for the provision ...
Washington may not have seen the last of “The Mooch.” Anthony Scaramucci, the short-lived White House communications chief who was forced out after just 11 days on the job, said in an interview on Monday that he remains in close touch with the White House. He told The Associated Press that although he has not spoken to Donald Trump in over a month, he talks to members of the president’s inner circle “regularly” and sees himself working with Trump again in the future. “I have very good relationships there still, and you have to remember we were a team for 18 months, and so we all had different roles. And so I’m still playing my role frankly. I’m an advocate for the president, media surrogate when I need to be,” Scaramucci said. ...

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday, Rosh Chodesh Kislev, stated he was “saddened” after hearing President Reuven Rivlin rejected a request for a pardon for former IDF soldier Elor Azariya. After reaching his decision not to pardon Azariya, the President’s Residence issued the following statement to Azariya: “The President has given his opinion regarding the offenses committed by you and their circumstances, the content of your written application, and all the material and opinions brought before him, and has decided to reject the application. “From examining the material before him, the President learned that in passing sentence, the military court took into account the circumstances raised by you – which appear in part in th...
