Hamas’s exiled leader, Khaled Maashal, said Israel had changed “the rules of the game” after the killing of a top terrorist commander in the Gaza Strip last week. Israel has not confirmed nor denied that it was behind the death of the commander, Mazen Faqha. “Israel decided to change the rules of the game, and we accept the challenge,” Mashaal said in a speech broadcast during a memorial service for Faqha, killed last Friday in an incident that Hamas has blamed on Israel.  “The Zionist occupier took from us a great hero, and for this we will not sit quietly,” he said. Israel is not the only possible culprit for the assassination, as Salafi jihadist groups in Gaza have also targeted Hamas leaders.  Mashaal claimed Faqha had...
Thousands of anti-draft demonstrators are gathered in central Jerusalem. Traffic is blocked in the surrounding area.
The California high school students behind “Toasted Jew” and other antisemitic graffiti and other antisemitic messages have been disciplined, NBC Bay Area news reported Thursday. According to the report, Carlmont High School Principal Ralph Crame said the school had identified and taken action against the perpetrators of two recent incidents involving swastikas and messages targeting the Jewish community written in chalk on the campus, though he would not elaborate on the nature of the disciplinary measures. The school has removed the messages and cautioned students that any further such action could be determined a hate crime. “They had some education involved in the consequences, and we also sent t...
While all your lovely BJL readers are cleaning up your homes for Pesach, here are a few wonderful tips to keep in mind. These are wonderful Decluttering Secrets from the Guru of organizing Himself, Peter Walsh!!!! The tip in #11 is the one that speaks to me most. "If you can get things out, you can put them back." That's pretty much the bottom line! 1. STOP PUSHING IT OFF You have to stop using the word "later," as in "I'll do that later" or "I'll put that away later." Clutter is decisions delayed, so the moment you use the word "later," you start letting clutter accumulate. No more procrastination. Stop saying later, and clutter will stop accumulating. Oh, and stop buying so much stuff! 2. Start small Aim to clear one box of clutter a day. Or set a timer for 10 minute...
Reposted by request: Lakewod, NJ  - Apr. 7 - With Pesach cleaning in high gear and after several incidents last year all are reminded of the dangers of the powerful St. Moritz chemical spray. The chemical, which appears to be just another cleaning agent available in groceries, was removed from a few groceries last year after children suffered serious – and possibly permanent – injures to their face. Parents of one child last year requested the graphic picture of their burned child be made public to serve as a reminder to parents to use extreme caution with the chemical. Even a slight amount of the chemical coming in contact with skin or eyes, can cause irreversible damage. Alternative - and less-lethal - chemicals are available.
BALTIMORE, Md. - They were the darlings of the World Baseball Classic and Yoni Rosenblatt was there for it all. “I love Israel. I love sports medicine. I rehab elite athletes every day. It was a great fit,” said Rosenblatt. The 35-year-old from Pikesville, son of Alan & Rachel Rosenblatt, is a physical therapist and owner of True Sports Physical Therapy in Fells Point. He’s a proud Baltimorean and a proud Jew. Rosenblatt was one of the physical therapists and strength and conditioning coaches for the Israeli baseball team that made history in the WBC. “We were thrilled, very proud of what we had accomplished,” said Rosenblatt. What they accomplished was sweeping their way through Israel’s first round of its first World Baseball Classic. Th...
A land claim made by Arabs from al-Khadar has been dismissed by the court, giving the green light to move ahead with the project of constructing fifty new homes. According to Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), the land claim halted progress on the project for a year or so, now dismissed and clearing the way to begin building. A military court however rejected the land claim, clearing the way to move forward.
United States Ambassador to the UN blasts the body's anti-Israel bias, vows to end it. Nikki Haley, the United States Ambassador to the UN, on Monday afternoon spoke at the 2017 AIPAC policy conference in Washington, DC, and stressed that “there’s a new sheriff in town” at the United Nations. “I was confused” when she saw that Israel was the focus of discussions on the Middle East at the UN, admitted Haley, adding she expected the discussions to focus on issues such as Syria, the Islamic State (ISIS) and Hezbollah, not on Israel. “I didn’t expect an Israel bashing session. I knew they said it was bad, but until you hear it and see it, you can’t comprehend how ridiculous it is,” she added. The Ambassador criticized the nuclear...
Berlin police say thieves broke into the German capital’s Bode Museum and made off with a massive 100-kilogram (221-pound) gold coin worth millions. Spokesman Stefen Petersen said thieves apparently entered through a window about 3:30 a.m. Monday, broke into a cabinet where the “Big Maple Leaf” coin was kept, and escaped with it before police arrived. A ladder was found by nearby railway tracks. The three-centimeter (1.18-inch) thick coin, with a diameter of 53 centimeters (20.9 inches), has a face value of $1 million. By weight alone, however, it would be worth almost $4.5 million at market prices. The museum says the coin is in the Guinness Book of Records for its purity of 999.99/1000 gold. It has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and maple leaves on the...
The Republican chairman of the House intelligence committee met on the White House grounds with the source of the claim that communications involving President Donald Trump’s associates were caught up in “incidental” surveillance, the congressman’s spokesman said Monday. The meeting occurred before Rep. Devin Nunes disclosed at a news conference last Wednesday that U.S. spy agencies may have inadvertently captured Trump and his associates in routine targeting of foreigners’ communications. “Chairman Nunes met with his source at the White House grounds in order to have proximity to a secure location where he could view the information provided by the source,” Nunes spokesman Jack Langer said. Previously, Nunes, R-Calif., would not say where he me...
A French prosecutor has requested a third life sentence for the man known as “Carlos the Jackal,” once the world’s most-wanted fugitive, for a deadly 1974 attack on a Paris shopping arcade. The Venezuelan-born Ilich Ramirez Sanchez is already serving two life sentences in France for a series of murders and attacks he has been convicted of perpetrating or organizing in the country on behalf of the Palestinian cause or of communist revolution in the 1970s and ’80s. Prosecutor Remi Crosson du Cormier on Monday asked a Paris court to give Ramirez Sanchez the harshest sentence in French law for “the horror of this terrorist attack.” Known worldwide as “Carlos,” the 67-year-old has denied involvement, saying there’s no proof against him. ...
As efforts continue to reach agreement between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, Yahadut Hatorah MK Moshe Gafne announced on Monday, 29 Adar, that despite what is believed, the chareidi party has no problem going to early elections if that is what is decided. He explained that is not what is preferred, but if this is what is occurring his party will not prevent the Knesset from dissolving and calling for early elections. He adds however, that since there are no “major issues” facing the government, going to early elections over the Israel Broadcast Authority issue “Would be irresponsible” but if this is what occurs, the chareidi party is okay with it as “it might even improve our situation”. Gafne stressed “We ...
As a billionaire developer, Donald Trump built casinos, luxe condo towers and lush golf courses. Now, as president, Trump aims to develop perhaps his most ambitious and surely his most contentious project yet: A wall along the nearly 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border. How? At what cost? And who would benefit? Much remains unknown. Ultimately, though, experts say the project, if built, could deliver a windfall for some large construction companies and their suppliers. Engineering and infrastructure companies that have worked on previous government projects could capture a chunk of the multibillion-dollar work. Among them are Kiewit and Flour Enterprises. Subsidiaries of both have signed up as interested vendors. But the project would likely also be stymied by the struggles that have beset th...
Nikki Haley received a hero's welcome at AIPAC on Monday as she reminded the pro-Israel lobbying group of her early successes as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and promised to continue with a sharp break from the Obama administration. "For anyone who says you can't get anything done at the U.N., they need to know there is a new sheriff in town," Haley said during an appearance at AIPAC's annual conference in Washington, D.C. The former South Carolina governor, drawing on her experience in retail politics, uncorked a series of red meat remarks attesting to the Trump administration's commitment to backing Israel. Her early advocacy at the UN — such as her successful demand that the UN withdraw a report accusing Israel of apartheid — has ende...
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who has famously declared himself “not a big media press access person,” isn’t alone in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet. But it’s too early to call him a trendsetter, either. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transportation Secretary Elaine Cho, both with extensive private sector backgrounds, have similarly been press-averse at the beginning of their tenures. Others seem to be following the leads of predecessors. In some cases, it’s just too early to tell. Tillerson’s decision not to make room for reporters on the plane for his first major overseas trip earlier this month drew scrutiny because his job is generally considered the most important in the Cabinet and there’s a rich tradition of secretaries of...
A terrorist was neutralized by soldiers at about 11:00AM Monday morning 29 Adar as he tried to perpetrate a stabbing attack at Bahad 3 Junction in Shomron in the direction of Chawarah, which is south of Shechem. B’chasdei Hashem the soldiers reacted in time, neutralizing the attacker before he could harm any of the intended victims.
According to coalition chairman (Likud) MK David Bitan, while chareidi representatives continue announcing they are opposed to early elections, they are preventing an agreement from being reached between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon. Speaking to Reshet Bet Radio on Monday morning 29 Adar, Bitan explained draft agreements have been drawn up, explaining any of the possible agreements would result in a delay in opening the new broadcast corporation and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon must show some flexibility towards the Likud’s position. Bitan adds that statements from the chareidim and other coalition members opposing elections are meaningless for if the proposal is introduced in Knesset, it will pass. As he did earlier this week, Bitan explained...
Israeli citizen Fadel Tzaber Knaneh, 25, a resident of Yafia/Nazareth, was arrested, on 2 March 2017, in a joint Shin Bet Israel Police operation in the wake of information according to which he had been in contact with Islamic State (IS) activists. It should be noted that Knaneh’s brother, Muhammad Knaneh, left for Syria in 2014, joined IS and was killed in combat. The Shin Bet investigation revealed that Knaneh, an ideological supporter of IS, was in contact with his brother prior to the latter’s death and with Israeli citizen Muhammad Keilani, who is currently serving as an IS fighter in Syria or Iraq. During 2016, Keilani notified Knaneh regarding his brother’s death in combat. In March 2017, Keilani requested Knaneh’s assistance in transferring funds from I...
Yet another poll asking respondents how they would vote if elections were held today places Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid party ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his Likud party.
