Foreign Ministry: 'Why give working visas to people whose only purpose is to attack us?' Israel will stop issuing work visas to Human Rights Watch staff, the NGO said Friday, with the Jewish State accusing the group of being "fundamentally biased" against it. The New York-based organization, which has written critical reports accusing Israel of "severe and discriminatory restrictions on Palestinians’ human rights," applied months ago for a visa for its "Israel and Palestine Director," American citizen Omar Shakir. On February 20, Israeli authorities informed it the request had been rejected because HRW is "not a real human rights group", the group said in a statement. Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon confirmed the decision to AFP. HRW, ...
New report finds that Netanyahu took extra steps to prevent leaks related to his talks with Trump over Judea and Samaria policy. Prime Minister Netanyahu compelled ministers in the Political-Security Cabinet to sign a document of obligation to complete secrecy - in order to prevent leaks from the details of the talk that the PM held with US President Donald Trump last week, according to a report published this morning in Yisrael Hayom. According to the report, the Cabinet members signed the document on Sunday - two days after Netanyahu returned from the US and before he set out again for official visits to Singapore and Australia. A senior official was quoted as saying yesterday that not only were ministers asked to sign to secrecy, but senior clerks present at the time of the me...

We’re talking about professional judges who represent different approaches and different populations.” “At the same time,” he noted, “to think that the appointments will drastically change the face of the Supreme Court is not realistic,” he said. While he said that “the appointments are important for a measure of public trust in the Supreme Court,” he asserted that “we need to change t...
Head of Family Research Institute says new Justice has history of punishing divorced men who want to be involved in raising their children. Dr. Yoav Mazeh, the head of the Family, Equality & Law Research Institute at Ono Academic College, expressed concern about the appointment of Justice Yael Willner to the Supreme Court. Dr. Mazeh said in an interview with Arutz Sheva that Justice Wilner, who is one of four new judges who were appointed to the Supreme Court this week, has a radical feminist and anti-male agenda. "There are judges who, when their rulings are checked consistently, evidence a very pronounced and serious bias. [These are] judges who ignore the circumstances, the facts, what is relevant to the specific case, and act in accordance with an agenda. Judge Yael ...

On Thursday night, the LSC sponsored a benefit concert featuring composer, singer and musical performer Shlomo Katz, at Bet Shmuel Theater in Jerusalem, Israel. The LSC has four homes for male lone soldiers. This evening was specifically to raise funds to establish a home for female lone soldiers. A third of IDF lone soldiers are young women. The performance was preceded by opening remarks from Josh Flaster, LSC National Director, an informative video...
Federal border officials say they were looking for a fugitive, not doing a random immigration check, when they met a plane at New York City’s Kennedy Airport and asked passengers for their IDs. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says in a statement that two of its officers met the Delta jet Wednesday evening after its flight from San Francisco in an attempt to find a specific person who had been ordered deported by an immigration judge. At least two passengers tweeted photographs of the officers examining flier’s IDs, which generated speculation on social media that it might be a part of a new dragnet for illegal immigrants. Customs and Border Protection says the person the officers were looking for was not on the plane.
Dozens of metal poles got loose from a truck in New York City and rained onto cars, with one piercing a man’s windshield. The Daily News says the scaffolding poles came off a flatbed truck Thursday night and fell from an elevated part of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway onto vehicles below. Munther Abu-Hamea says the crashing poles sounded like bombs and one went through his windshield, narrowly missing him. He drives for Uber and a limo firm and was on his way home to Staten Island. The father of six worried that he’d never see his family again. The driver behind him, Emil Dura of Brooklyn, is managing to laugh now, but also feared the worst as the poles smashed his car.
BREAKING: Police have shut down the upper level of the George Washington Bridge in both directions due to a possible suicidal person. The lower level is still open.
Brooklyn, NY - An Israeli tourist was arrested for climbing the Brooklyn Bridge to take pictures with his smartphone. The NY Post says (https://goo.gl/EB0l0y) 18-year-old, Yaroslav Kolchin was picked up at about 7 p.m. Thursday after jumping over a fence on the Brooklyn side of the bridge. “He jumped up to get a selfie with the skyline behind him,” the Post quoted a witness as saying. The man was charged with criminal trespass. Officials previously beefed up security around the bridge after a series of incidents involving climbers taking selfies or replacing the flags atop the bridge.
Jerusalem police have arrested three men who were arraigned on Thursday 27 Shevat on suspicion of attacking two Arab males as they walked in the parking lot of the Malcha Mall shopping center. Police requested extending their remand. Police report that on 27 Teves at the end of a soccer match in nearby Teddy Stadium between Betar Jerusalem and Sakhnin, a number of youths came out of the parking lot in their vehicle. As they waited at the gate to pay for the parking, they saw two Arab males walking, employees of the mall, and a verbal confrontation followed which led to physical violence. The Arab men required medical care as a result of the confrontation. One of the suspects was arrested during a soccer match that took place this week in Petach Tikvah for disturbing the peace. The two ot...

Two Ohio men who spent 20 years in prison for a murder before their convictions were overturned are suing prosecutors and East Cleveland detectives. Cleveland.com reports 38-year-old Laurese Glover and 39-year-old Derrick Wheatt allege detectives manipulated a 14-year-old girl into identifying them as culprits in the 1995 shooting and withheld potentially exonerating information. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. The county prosecutor’s spokesman says the office is reviewing the suit. East Cleveland’s law director said she hadn’t seen it. An attorney for the third defendant in the case, Eugene Johnson, says he’ll probably file his own lawsuit. The three were convicted as teenagers, but denied killing 19-year-old Clifton Hudson. They were freed in 2015, and ...
With states seizing the initiative on shaping the future of self-driving cars, General Motors is trying to persuade legislators across the country to approve rules that would benefit the automaker while potentially keeping its competitors off the road. The carmaker denies trying to freeze out other brands, but legislators in four states say GM lobbyists asked them to sponsor bills that the company’s competitors contend would do just that. The bills set a blueprint for the introduction of fully self-driving cars that are part of on-demand, ride-sharing fleets, but they must be owned by an automaker. Competitors working on self-driving technology like Uber and Alphabet’s Waymo fear the measures could shut out their companies because they don’t manufacture cars. And some a...
Car shopping isn’t just about kicking the tires anymore. It’s also about testing the technology. The rapidly evolving in-car infotainment and navigation systems can be bewildering for all but the most tech-savvy car buyers. The average vehicle on U.S. roads is 11 years old; that means many people last went car shopping before iPhones were invented. Car buyers should make sure they can pair their phone with a car, play music from their phone, make a hands-free call and use the navigation system before they leave the dealer lot, experts say. They should make sure volume knobs, climate controls and other technology is intuitive and displayed the way they like. Some drivers want volume controls on the steering wheel, for example, while others prefer a knob on the dashboard. Safe...
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is praising the media at a time when the Trump administration has accused reporters of being dishonest and delivering “fake news.” Ginsburg told the BBC’s “Newsnight” program in an interview Thursday that she reads The Washington Post and The New York Times every day, and that “reporters are trying to tell the public the truth.” The 83-year-old justice did not comment directly on President Donald Trump, but said she was encouraged by the massive women’s march in Washington, the day after his inauguration Jan. 20, when demonstrators protested his election victory. ‘I’ve never seen such a demonstration, both the numbers and the rapport of the people in that crowd,” she said. “...
Former House Speaker John Boehner predicted on Thursday that a full repeal and replacement of “Obamacare” is “not going to happen.” Boehner was forced out by conservatives in 2015. The Ohio Republican says he started laughing when he heard President Donald Trump and Republicans promise swift action on undoing and replacing the health law. He says: “Republicans never ever agree on health care.” Boehner spoke at a health care conference in Orlando. His remarks were reported by Politico. He predicts that in the end, Republicans will leave the basic framework of the Affordable Care Act in place and make relatively modest changes. As speaker, Boehner promised numerous times to repeal and replace Obamacare in full. He presided over a 2013 government shutd...
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday the administration is committed to getting major tax reform legislation through Congress by August. He predicted that President Donald Trump’s economic proposals will be able to boost growth significantly to annual rates above 3 percent. Mnuchin said that tax reform is the administration’s top economic priority and the goal is to have a measure approved by the time Congress takes its August recess. “We are committed to pass tax reform,” Mnuchin said in an interview on CNBC. “It’s going to be focused on middle income tax cuts, simplification and making (the U.S.) business tax competitive with the rest of the world, which has been a big problem.” He said implementation of Trump’s economic progr...
