In his final days with his beloved nation, Moshe tries to give proper instruction to his beloved people. “Now if you give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, and keep with care all these orders which I have given you today, then the Lord your God will put you high over all the nations of the earth: And all these blessings will come on you and overtake you, if your ears are open to the voice of the Lord your God. A blessing will be on you in the town, and a blessing in the field. A blessing will be on the fruit of your body, and on the fruit of your land, on the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herd, and the young of your flock. A blessing will be on your basket and on your bread-basin.  You shall be blessed when you come and blessed when you depart (Devorim 28:2-6)...
David, a resident of Kiryat Malachi, was surprised this past week to find an anonymous letter in his mailbox, with only his family name on it. When he opened the envelope, he was confused to find bills totaling ₪ 1500 and a brief note that read: “Three years ago, I banged into your car. At the time, I had serious financial problems, was struggling with my income, and could not afford to pay you as I should have. I would like to express my regret and apologize for causing you distress. I beg your forgiveness. Enclosed is money that I hope will be enough to make up for the distress I have caused you. Again, I hope you will forgive me. ” David was very touched by the gesture of the unknown individual, but he is seeking the sender, because he wants to return the...
Citing ‘battlefield sources,’ state media says its warships bombed 30 officers from Israel, Qatar and Western countries Russian state media reported that Israeli Mossad agents and other foreign military officers were killed in Aleppo on Tuesday in a Russian missile strike  According to the Arabic-language version of Russia’s Sputnik news agency, some “30 Israeli and Western officers” died when they were hit by three Kalibr cruise missiles fired by Russian warships in a “foreign officers’ coordination operations room” in western Aleppo, near Mount Simeon. Pollard says health improved, does not believe he will be allowed to visit Israel. Jonathan Pollard recently expressed pessimism regarding his chances of coming home to Israel. In an exclusive interview with Channel 1's Amir Bar-Shalom, Pollard said his health had improved greatly since his release. In answer to the question of whether the Israeli government had abandoned him, Pollard replied, "The nation is with me." He also said that it would take a miracle for the American government to agree to lower their restrictions on his activities. Pollard was arrested in 1985, on charges of spying for Israel. Despite his deteriorating health, and the fact that his information went to a friendly country (spies from hostile countries served less prison time), decades of American p...
(AFP). Pulitzer prize-winning historian Saul Friedlander, a world authority on the Holocaust, said Friday he would leave the United States if Donald Trump was elected president. The 83-year-old Israeli-American writer, who escaped the Nazis by being hidden in a Catholic boarding school in France, described Trump as a “dangerous crazy”. He said the controversial Republican candidate could win November’s election because of Hillary Clinton’s “tendency to lie and to hide things”. “One cannot exclude Donald Trump winning even though he is a dangerous crazy,” he told AFP. “He says whatever comes into his mind.” Friedlander’s magisterial two-volume history of Nazi Germany and the Jews charts Adolf Hitler’s rise t...

Before Rosh haShannah we read brochos and klollos of Mishna Torah. Why did Chazal make such a chiyuv? As we approach Rosh Hashono, we approach the Yom Hadin. We have to take serious inventory about what our yiddishkeit means to us, what Torah means to us, and how are we measuring up to what the Torah demands of us. The brochos and klolos of Mishna Torah begin with an introduction. There was a first bris made between Klal Yisroel and Hashem on Har Sinai, and a second bris is being made in Arvos Moav with the new generation of the Jewish People 40 years later who will be entering into Eretz Yisroel. It is a whole different situation and period of history. When Klal Yisroel left Egypt, they were formed and fashioned as a people through kabbolas HaTorah. They spent 40 years in a barren dese...
Terrorist neutralized after attempting to carry out stabbing attack at Elias junction. On Friday afternoon, a 14-year-old Muslim terrorist attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at Elias Junction, near Kiryat Arba. Nobody was hurt, and the terrorist was successfully neutralized. Apparently, the terrorist tried to sneak into the hitchhiking stop from the back. He managed to pull out his knife, but security forces, who are always present in the area, shot him in the foot. Malachi Levinger, who heads the Kiryat Arba-Hevron council, said, "On the eve of the holy Shabbat, a dangerous and vile person has again tried to murder Jews near the entrance to Kiryat Arba-Hevron. Thank God, our devoted security forces managed to neutralize him before he caused any harm." "Just a few days ...
Donald Trump’s advisers are urging him to keep his cool during next week’s presidential debate and resist attempts by Hillary Clinton to provoke him with questions about his business record, wealth or controversial comments about minorities. The focus underscores the campaign’s concern that too many Americans still don’t believe the Republican has the temperament to be president, which could be a difference-maker in a close race with Clinton. “He can’t let Hillary get under his skin,” said Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and Trump adviser. Gingrich is part of a rotating cast of politicians and policy experts traveling with Trump on his private plane for mid-flight debate preparations, according to Republicans familiar with the preparatio...
A new Israeli spy satellite is operational and taking high-quality pictures after suffering technical difficulties during its launch earlier this month, defense officials said Thursday. Amnon Harari, director of the Defense Ministry’s space administration, said satellite operators downloaded the first images from the Ofek 11 satellite at about 5:10 p.m. Thursday. “The images are splendid, very good,” he told reporters. After the satellite was launched on Sept. 13, officials said it was not acting as expected. Harari said that since then technical teams have been busy stabilizing the satellite and its systems. Officials have described the Ofek 11 as the country’s most sophisticated spy satellite. It is expected to be used to keep tabs on Iran and other regional a...
PM Netanyahu held a farewell meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who will conclude his term at the end of the year. Netanyahu thanked Ban Ki-moon and expressed his appreciation for his “integrity”.
The Heichal Tischen of Seret-Vishnitz in Haifa has been placed ‘off limits’ by an order issued by Haifa City Hall. Needless to say with Rosh Hashanah days away, this is cause for significant alarm as hundreds of chassidim usually join the rebbe for Rosh Hashanah. It is explained the order was given at the behest of the city engineer following an on-site inspection. He claims that the chassidus did not comply with requests that were made, ignored in the last inspection on erev Pesach and nothing was done since. Hence, the decision was made to act and not wait until a catastrophe occurs. As a result of the city order, the building may not be used for anything until it is brought up to code. Officials in the chassidus explain they knew there are items that require attention but ...
Below is the full text and video of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly, delivered on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at UN Headquarters in New York City. --------------------- Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen, What I’m about to say is going to shock you: Israel has a bright future at the UN. Now I know that hearing that from me must surely come as a surprise, because year after year I’ve stood at this very podium and slammed the UN for its obsessive bias against Israel. And the UN deserved every scathing word – for the disgrace of the General Assembly that last year passed 20 resolutions against the democratic State of Israel and a grand total of three resolutions against all the other countries on the planet. Isr...
We will soon enter the Days of Judgment and appeal to G-d that He should instill awe upon all his works; bestow honor to His people; the righteous should see and be glad.    We wait for the day when iniquity will close its mouth; all wickedness shall evaporate like smoke, כי תעביר ממשלת זדון מן הארץ, when you will remove the rule of evil from the earth. We conclude: Then you, G-d will reign alone over all your works... The objective of our prayers for the restoration of G-d’s presence in the world is so that we will finally be rid of the ממשלת זדון, the ‘rule of evil’ in this world. Who are these rulers of evil that we seek to eradicate? Are these our physical enemies, or perhaps spiritual forces? We pray each day t...
How long do you think you’ll live? Sorry to be so blunt, but don’t we all think that we’ll always some “more time”? I am thinking about many people I have known – some of them very close, some just acquaintances, some very young, some old – who, over the past year, have become very sick or who have died. When these people are young or have never been sick, it is a terrible shock to hear the news – how can this be!? Didn’t they have more time!? I didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye, or tell them what a special person they were! That’s because we are complacent and think we have more time. But time is a precious commodity, and we tend not to cherish it as much as we should. I am always reminded of a mussar thought R&rsqu...
It’s hard to describe the feeling of Shabbos here. There is a peace, a serenity that is palpable. People coming and going from shule. The sounds of kiddush or zemiros from open apartment windows. The streets literally filled with children playing jump rope. Or enjoying the ability to zoom down hilly streets on their bimba (Israeli version of a children’s riding toy) without a car in sight. But like so many experiences in life, Shabbos in Yerushalayim cannot be properly experienced without first experiencing Eruv Shabbos in Yerushalayim. I am still very new to Shabbos preparations in Israel. We are still in our temporary rental apartment while our own apartment is being renovated. THAT is, of course, a whole series of articles in itself – our shiputzim (renovations). But ...

Computer hackers swiped personal information from at least 500 million Yahoo accounts in what is believed to be the biggest digital break-in at an email provider. The massive security breakdown disclosed Thursday poses new headaches for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer as she scrambles to close a $4.8 billion sale to Verizon Communication. The breach Thursday dates back to late 2014, raising questions about the checks and balances within Yahoo — a fallen internet star that has been laying off staff to counter a steep drop in revenue during the past eight years. At the time of the break-in, Yahoo’s security team was led by Alex Stamos, a respected industry executive who left last year to take a similar job at Facebook. Yahoo didn’t explain what took so long to uncover a breach ...
