BALTIMORE —A plan to merge two rival schools under the same roof has parents, students, teachers and alumni upset. The plan calls for closing Forest Park High School for renovations and sending those students to Northwestern High School. Those upset about the idea held a news conference Thursday saying the plan is an all-around bad idea and that no one from North Avenue is listening. "I don't think it should happen," said Laren Yates, a Northwestern student. The plan is for the district to relocate the Forest Park students to Northwestern next year, then close Northwestern and all the students would go to Forest Park. Parent Michael Rose said that would leave one high school in the northwest corridor. He's against the move. "It's hectic for the kids, disorg...
Hamas's tunnels the last real weapon it has after Protective Edge, head of Defense Committee says - and it's firing shells to protect them. Frequent Hamas rocket fire on the Gaza Belt region over the past week stems from "frustration" over the IDF uncovering terror tunnels, a top Knesset official said Friday.  "There's a reason everyone is on edge," Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman MK Tzachi HaNegbi stated in an Army Radio interview. "It's been two years since Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, which was successful and managed to almost decimate Hamas entirely. Over the two years we have seen a lull we haven't seen since Hamas came to power by force in 2007."  "Over the past several days and even more in the last ...
Hours after Gazan terrorists again fire on soldiers, IDF lets 260 Gazans pray on the Temple Mount. Hamas terrorists in recent days have launched numerous mortar attacks on IDF soldiers working to unearth the attack tunnels under the Gaza security border, but the IDF on Friday nevertheless let 260 Gazan Arabs visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The clashes have seen repeated mortar shelling targeting the troops, and the IDF in return has responded with tank fire and airstrikes. Evidently the rapid deterioration of the ceasefire that ended 2014 Operation Protective Edge was not seen as a reason to stop the weekly entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Mount given to Gazans on the Muslim day of rest. The move is seen by some as ironic, given that police kowtow to the Jordanian Wa...
The producer of a primetime television program in Germany is being investigated for posting a photo of a swastika-shaped schnitzel on social media. Prosecutors in the German town of Mainz confirmed that they are investigating the case after receiving complaints about the food swastika, including one by Austrian law student Emanuel Falch, who said the producer should be prosecuted for branding people as Nazis. A spokesperson for the prosecutors said, “In fact there were several complaints, including two from Austria.” The photo in question was posted on April 25 on the Facebook page of the German program, Heute Show. The message accompanying the meme reads: “Austrians are voting the same way they like their schnitzels, ...
On this week’s parshah: Moshe Rabbeinu descended from Har Sinai with the Second Tablets with him – a sure sign that G-d had forgiven the Jewish people for the sin of the Golden Calf. The day on which Moses descended from the mountain was the tenth of Tishrei; this day was thus established for eternity as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. In this week’s Torah portion, the Torah describes the special services of this day (R’ Moshe M. Leiber). The Two Goats “U’mai’ais adas B’nei Yisrael yee’kach shnei s’ee’rei i’zim … v’heh’eh’meed o’sam lif’nei Hashem pesach ohel mo’ed w From the assembly of the Children of Israel he shall take two goats … and stand them before Hashem a...
Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke lauded Donald Trump’s rise to become the Republican nominee on Wednesday, saying that he had overcome “Jewish supremacists who control” the United States, NEWSWEEK reports. On his radio show, Duke launched into an anti-Semitic tirade, saying that opposition to Trump showed that Jews are “the real problem” and the “reason why America is not great.” Duke hailed Trump’s win as an “amazing victory” and blamed Republican Jews for attempts to stop him becoming the eventual candidate for the presidency. “I think these Jewish extremists have made a terribly crazy miscalculation, because all they’re going to be doing by doing a Never Trump movement is exposing their alien, t...
For years, we’ve heard of a possible link between cell phone use and cancer. Now, this week, researchers in Baltimore say the evidence is clear, and children are more at risk, CBS BALTIMORE reports. The studies link cell phones to a slew of health issues in children. That’s why experts say parents and expecting mothers need to be extra careful. “The weight of the evidence is clear: cell phones do cause brain cancer,” said Dr. Devras Davis, president, Environmental Health Trust. Dr. Davis says the young brain absorbs twice as much radiation as an adult. “There’s a correlation between cell phone use in pregnancy and behavioral problems in their children,” said Dr. Hugh Taylor, Yale Schoolof Medicine. “These devices are rea...
The oft-repeated notion that Jews went willingly to the slaughter during the Holocaust is completely unfounded, a Holocaust commemoration activist told The Algemeiner on Thursday, citing a number of documents which were recently uncovered by his organization detailing eye-witness accounts of Jews fighting back. Jonny Daniels, founder and executive director of From the Depths, which works with Holocaust survivors, Jewish communities in Eastern Europe and the Polish government to preserve the memory of the Holocaust, said that one of several projects he is engaged in includes translating first hand accounts that have sat untouched for years in Poland’s governmental archives. Daniels said his organization has “uncovered remarkable documentation that...
My instinctive feeling right now is that Trump is gonna win, beat Hillary badly, that it could be landslide proportions. I still don’t think people understand why Trump won this. I don’t think they understand at all the reason people support Trump. And the deeper people are entrenched in politics, and the more they are accustomed to the templates and the handbooks and the theories and the playbooks, the less they’re gonna understand it. The more they try to plug Donald Trump and his campaign and his personality into the professional politician candidate playbook that they use, the farther and farther from the truth they are going to get. I’ve tried to help. During the course of this entire campaign, I’ve gone to great lengths to try to explain to peo...

Washington - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is likely to interview Hillary Clinton in the next few weeks about her use of a private email server while she was U.S. secretary of state and have already interviewed some of her aides, CNN reported on Thursday. Clinton, who is likely to win the race to become the Democratic Party’s candidate in November’s presidential election, has said she was willing to be interviewed in connection with the FBI’s investigation into whether any laws were broken as a result of the email arrangement. More than 2,000 emails sent and received by Clinton while working as President Barack Obama’s top diplomat include classified information, which the government bans from being handled outside secure, government-controlled chan...
In Arabic TV interview, Labour’s ex-London mayor blames Israel for IS attacks in Europe and mass expulsion of Jews from Arab world, again claims Hitler supported Zionism Former London mayor Ken Livingstone on Wednesday called the creation of Israel “fundamentally wrong,” and “a great catastrophe.” The existence of the Jewish state in the Middle East, he said, could ultimately lead to nuclear war. “The creation of the state of Israel was fundamentally wrong, because there had been a Palestinian community there for 2,000 years,” Livingstone told an Arabic language TV station based in London, in a clip posted and translated by the watchdog MEMRI group. “The creation of the state of Israel was a great catastrophe,” he repeated....
Washington - For some Democrats, Donald Trump may seem to be a gift - set to steer Republicans into a trainwreck election in November - but senior Democrat Harry Reid said on Thursday he worried people might be too confident. “Am I concerned about it? Of course I am,” the U.S. Senate Democratic leader said in a conference call with reporters. “I think this race could be a debacle for the Republicans,” Reid added. “But I’m not taking anything for granted. I’m not being over confident.” Trump effectively clinched the Republican presidential nomination for the Nov. 8 election this week after a primary battle that angered many - including in his own party’s establishment - for his bombastic style and proposals such as building a ...
Paris - A French Islamic State cell dismantled in the final stages of planning an attack has yielded a new secret this week, with the release of undercover footage showing how a group of disaffected petty criminals transformed into a terror network. Filmed by a young French Muslim journalist who infiltrated the group with a hidden camera, the Canal Plus documentary takes an extraordinary inside look at the group, which called itself the Soldiers of Allah. The cell was nominally led by a young ex-convict who called himself Abu Oussama, who speaks dreamily about his coming death, the palace that awaits him in paradise, the winged horse made of gold and rubies, and the women: “I’m not making this up, I swear,” he breathes. “I got the feeling they’re be...
Los Angeles - The man who claimed to be the mysterious founder of bitcoin appears to be stepping back into the shadows, leaving numerous questions in his wake. Three days after Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright came forward as “Satoshi Nakamoto,” the unknown creator of the digital currency bitcoin, he has backtracked in a dramatic fashion. He wrote in a blog post that he does not “have the courage” to publish additional proof, as he promised Wednesday, that he is the elusive creator of the Internet currency. Wright’s initial claims drew widespread skepticism. He said on Wednesday that he would provide verifiable documentation and take additional steps to prove his identity. Instead, he scrubbed his blog clean of past entries and posted a short s...
New York - Those smiley door greeters are back at Wal-Mart. The nation’s largest retailer said in a blog post this week that it’s bringing back door greeters to a majority of its 5,000 stores by mid-summer to improve customer service. For stores which have been selected as higher risks for thefts, Wal-Mart will position a “customer host,” who will not only greet customers but also check receipts to prevent theft. That was flagged as a growing problem last year. Those workers will be trained to help deter potential shoplifters. The rollout follows a successful pilot program. Four years ago, the discounter decided to remove the workers at the front of the store and relocated them to other areas. Greeters were a tradition that its late founder Sam Walton star...
New York - Donald Trump wants to make one thing perfectly clear — he doesn’t cheat at golf. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee also says he has never golfed with retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who earlier this week questioned Trump’s integrity on the golf course. “Not only didn’t I cheat, I didn’t play with him,” Trump said. “I have never played a round of golf with this guy.” Trump told The Associated Press on Thursday he respects the game too much to cheat and is good enough to have won a number of club championships. Trump, who owns 18 golf courses, says De La Hoya is lying about him because he wants to sell tickets to a fight he is promoting. Trump said his son, Eric, told him not to respond to De La Hoya&rsqu...
This week’s parshah begins by mentioning the deaths of Nadav and Avihu, Aharon’s two sons. The Torah attests that Aharon silently accepted their deaths with perfect faith (10:3). How did Aharon have the strength to do so? Additionally, what can we learn from his example? Perhaps we can answer this by addressing another, more general question: why did suffering, like the Holocaust, happen to our nation? Furthermore, how could Hashem, Who is completely benevolent in all that He does, allow suffering in this world in general? During the nightmare of World War 2, the accursed Nazis captured R’ Elchonon Wasserman and martyred him. An eyewitness reported the powerful words that R’ Elchonon spoke during those dreadful final days in hiding, when he was asked to explain w...
Trenton, NJ - A Philadelphia woman who was arrested after she refused to answer questions during a traffic stop in New Jersey has sued state police, claiming troopers violated basic rules by arresting her for remaining silent. Rebecca Musarra, an attorney, filed the federal civil rights lawsuit after the Oct. 16 stop on Route 519 near the border with Pennsylvania in Warren County, NJ.com reported (http://bit.ly/21zKGbV ). At least three troopers insisted after she was pulled over that refusing to answer questions was a criminal act, according to the lawsuit. Spokesmen for the state police and the attorney general’s office, which is representing the troopers, declined to comment on the allegations. State police spokesman Capt. Stephen Jones said the department’s inte...
Austin, TX - In finishing the Republican presidential race well ahead of Donald Trump’s other rivals, Ted Cruz is likely to be a leading GOP voice for the foreseeable future. Less clear is whether Cruz harnesses that clout to boost Trump’s White House bid — after all the bad blood between them — or simply solidifies his place as a champion of conservative causes, Senate troublemaker and star of Texas politics. “There’s no question” Cruz remains No. 1 in Texas despite falling to Trump nationally, says political consultant Matt Mackowiak, who’s based in the state. “There’s no bigger draw, there’s no one whose endorsement means more, there’s no one who has a larger organization,” Mackowiak said. “To...
