Annapolis, MD - July 11, 2025 - It won’t happen immediately, but advocates and state officials are predicting that changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the budget reconciliation bill signed last week will deliver “a devastating blow” to many of the 680,000 Marylanders who get SNAP benefits.
The biggest change that recipients will see are new work requirements for some able-bodied recipients that analysts say many Marylanders simply will not be able to meet, for a number of reasons.
The bill also includes a massive shift in costs from the federal to the state governments. Currently, the split administrative costs for the program 50/50 and the federal government pays for all the costs of the actual benefit.
Beginning next year, states will pay 75% ...
Annapolis, MD - July 11, 2025 - Deep cuts to Medicaid in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will likely force thousands of Marylanders off the Medicaid rolls, creating ripple effects that advocates fear could strain and disrupt the state’s overall health care system.
“The whole situation is incredibly frustrating and a lot of harm has been done to the Maryland health care system with this bill,” said Gene Ransom, CEO for MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society.
President Donald Trump (R) signed H.R. 1, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” last week. In addition to permanently extending some tax cuts and slashing food stamp benefits, the new law aims to cut $1 trillion in Medicaid spending over the next 10 years by reducing aid to states, imposing w...
In a split decision Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit vacated former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s federal mortgage fraud conviction but upheld her perjury convictions.
The 2-1 decision ruled that the District Court of Maryland's venue instruction was erroneous, and found that the jury could've determined that the government didn't meet its burden to establish venue in that district, and that the error was not harmless.
However, the U.S. District Court said the District of Maryland's decision to allow the government to introduce evidence as to how Mosby used funds she withdrew from her retirement accounts was not in error, as the evidence was ruled supportive to where Mosby had suffered "adverse financial consequences."

Baltimore, MD – July 11, 2025 – - Be vigilant as missionaries continue to visit homes in our community. BJL has just been informed that they are now active in Beazer, handing out various collateral materials.
A verse from this week's reading has become popular internationally during the recent campaign Israel waged against Iran.
Behold! עם כלביא — A nation like a lion cub, will arise, and raise itself as a lion, it will not lie down until it consumes prey, and drinks the blood of the slain (במדבר כג כד).
Nachmanides indeed interprets this verse as a testament to the nation's leonine courage and successful battles against the Canaanite kings in conquering the land.
The Midrash Tanchuma though teaches that this verse refers to our awakening each morning eager to 'grab' like a lion the opportunity to recite קריאת שמע — Shma, coronating our King with our allegiance to Him.
It is due to this allusion to the mitzvah of declaring Shma Yisrael...

A senior Israeli official on Thursday expressed concern that deeply buried stocks of enriched uranium at one Iranian nuclear facility, targeted by recent US military strikes, may still be retrievable, The Associated Press reported.
This assessment widens the view on the damage inflicted by last month’s strikes, in which the United States intervened in Israel's conflict with Iran to counter the threat of a nuclear weapons program.
The senior Israeli official, speaking anonymously, stated that Israel believes Iran's enriched uranium was distributed across the three sites and had not been relocated. The official added that while the enriched uranium at Isfahan could potentially be retrieved, it would necessitate a "very difficult recovery effort."

Wasahington, D.C. - July 10, 2025 - "This is the final day of a historic visit that followed a historic victory in the war against Iran. What has been agreed upon between President Trump and me, on issues pertaining to Gaza, the region and even beyond the region, will be discussed at a later time.I would like to open this day by sending my deepest condolences, on behalf of my wife and me, to the family of the man who was murdered in Gush Etzion. We have tremendous achievements in the fight against terrorism, in Judea and Samaria and in the broader region, but there are also painful tolls. I would like to give, on your behalf as well, a strong embrace from the bottom of the heart to the family of the man who was murdered. May G-d avenge his death.I met yesterday with the families...
This past week, Yossi Sturman (name changed) was flying to Atlanta from Jackson, New Jersey. He had a return flight that same evening, but it was delayed before finally boarding.
Yossi had upgraded to Economy Plus, but once seated, a flight attendant asked if he’d switch so a mother and daughter could sit together. He wasn’t sure why they asked him, but he felt they saw a visibly Jewish passenger and assumed he’d agree — even though it meant giving up his upgrade.
He agreed and moved to a seat all the way in the back, right in front of an elderly couple.
Mid-flight, bad weather forced the plane, originally headed for Newark, to divert to Albany. After refueling, they were supposed to continue, but the flight was eventually canceled. At 11:30 p.m., passengers foun...
Baltimore, MD - July 10, 2025 - Emergency crews responded to a level one mass casualty incident involving as many as 15 people experiencing overdose symptoms in Penn-North.
Baltimore City fire and police officials said the city received an overdose call around 9:25 a.m. Thursday and that paramedics responded to the area of Pennsylvania and North avenues.
While treating a person experiencing an overdose, multiple others directed paramedics to additional patients. When the paramedics realized this was a larger emergency, the response was scaled up.
Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said as many as 15 people were hospitalized, five in critical condition — and that number is likely to change as crews find additional suspected overdose cases in the area. Multiple medic units are in th...
