Shabbat with Agam Berger
The accompanying photo of me with Agam and Meirav Berger was taken on Motzaei Shabbat. When Agam was a hostage in Gaza, the Kesher Yehudi organization arranged so many Shabbatot in her merit, and now Agam herself participated in a Kesher Yehudi Shabbaton — a special Shabbat of gratitude.
Here are some highlights:
On Shabbat afternoon, Agam and her family had a Q&A session with hundreds of graduates of pre-military programs. In answer to the question what gave Agam strength during her captivity she said, “My faith. It was clear to me that there must be some meaning to what I was going through. I knew that God was with me and that I had a special role to play.”
On Friday night, participants attend a “tisch” with the c...

Jerusalem, Israel - July 7, 2025 - Tzeela Gez was murdered by a terrorist in May while en route to the hospital to give birth to her fourth child. Her name was in headlines across the world, aghast at the cruelty. What was not shared for the sake of privacy were details or ages of her husband and three children, who would now have to find a way to go on without the pillar of their family.
One of those children is entering the first grade in the fall. For children throughout Israel, this is a very major milestone as the jump from preschool to elementary education frameworks is significant. For families across Israel, there is now a parent missing to make this milestone the empowering celebration that it should be.
So "One Family", Israel’s largest national support organization...

Late yesterday afternoon, soon before the arrival of Shabbos, President Donald Trump signed into law the first-ever national scholarship tax credit program, as part of the federal budget reconciliation package, aka The One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
For those of us following the growth and expansion of school choice in states across the country, this exciting achievement provides a new and unprecedented opportunity in addressing the challenges presented by the tuition burden. As projected, this new proposal can generate millions of dollars for Jewish day school tuition to families in our community, and hundreds of millions to Jewish communities across the country.

The idea of a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians has never seemed more futile than in the months since Oct. 7, 2023. But maybe that opens the door to a new way of achieving peace.
“We want cooperation with Israel,” says Sheikh Wadee’ al-Jaabari, also known as Abu Sanad, from his ceremonial tent in Hebron, the West Bank’s largest city located south of Jerusalem. “We want coexistence.” The leader of Hebron’s most influential clan has said such things before, as did his father. But this time is different. Sheikh Jaabari and four other leading Hebron sheikhs have signed a letter pledging peace and full recognition of Israel as a Jewish state. Their plan is for Hebron to break out of the Palestinian Authority, establish an emirate of it...
