Protests turned violent for the third consecutive day in Los Angeles on Sunday night, as federal immigration enforcement operations prompted widespread unrest, property damage, and mass arrests across the city.
Tensions began to rise last Friday following a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in several neighborhoods, including Boyle Heights and the Fashion District. The raids resulted in dozens of arrests and quickly drew crowds of demonstrators accusing the federal government of targeting immigrant communities.

Efforts to clean up an oil spill that leaked 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the Baltimore Harbor on Wednesday have recovered most of the spilled oil, says the U.S. Coast Guard.
In a statement sent to The Baltimore Sun on Saturday evening, Lt. j.g. Erin Johnson, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, said that the crew working to clean the spill has recovered 4,700 of the estimated 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled into the Harbor, and that between 25% and 50% of the oil has likely dissipated since the spill.
Johnson continued stating that after rain showers in the morning brought no additional oil out of the storm drain system, the emergency response team determined that their attempts to flush oil out of the system worked.

Tensions mounted in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon as police clashed with protesters on a freeway and declared another protest outside the Metropolitan Detention Center “unlawful.”
Dozens of protesters were arrested throughout the day. About 300 National Guard members were deployed in the city, after President Trump made the extraordinary decision to send members of the military to counter what he called “insurrectionist mobs.”
