Baltimore, MD - Feb. 22, 2025 - Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott's hiring of a new out-of-state spokesperson has a city councilman questioning the impact of city worker residency regulations.
Kamau Marshall was hired in late 2024 as the Scott administration’s director of communications, a vacancy left after long-time aid Bryan Doherty was promoted to Mayor Scott’s deputy chief of staff for communications and strategic policy.
Spotlight on Maryland verified Marshall’s position through an automatic email reply received from inquiries directed to the mayor’s office. Two members of the city’s human resources staff also confirmed the employment of the new spokesperson but requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Baltimore, MD - Feb. 22, 2025 - Mayor Brandon Scott took to X on Saturday to release a statement opposing President Donald Trump's executive order targeting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs.
During his first 48 hours in office, Trump signed sweeping executive orders fulfilling a number of campaign pledges, including weeding out what he calls "illegal and immoral discrimination programs," under the guise of DEI.
The White House said it's a revocation of a Biden-era order that forced Federal agencies and entities to submit “Equity Action Plans,” which they argue "demonstrated immense public waste and shameful discrimination."
"Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts were never about providing opportunities to unqualified individuals but about ensuring that ...
Baltimore, MD - Feb. 22, 2025 - Precautionary testing found elevated levels of legionella in three Baltimore City courthouses, according to a news release.
It’s the second time in around two months that the city has found elevated levels of legionella in its courthouses.
The courthouses reopened around a week later.
In a news release, officials said Baltimore will be conducting mitigation efforts such as flushing and chlorination treatments over the weekend.
Officials said in the release that the age of buildings and the design of plumbing systems likely contributed to the elevated levels.
The city will continue to monitor the levels in the coming months and determine if more efforts to mitigate the levels are needed.
Tel Aviv, Israel - Feb. 22, 2025 - The Prime Minister's Office announced early Sunday morning that in light of Hamas' repeated violations, it has been decided to delay the release of terrorists that was planned for Saturday.
According to the announcement, one of the reasons for the decision is the ceremonies that humiliate the hostages and the cynical exploitation of the hostages for propaganda purposes,
The PMO clarified that the terrorist release will only take place after the release of the next hostages has been assured, and without the humiliating ceremonies.
Following the decision, the terrorists who were set to be released were removed from the buses and returned to their prison cells.
Israel was to have released 620 terrorists on Saturday, includ...

Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 21, 2025 - Since day one, I’ve been telling anyone who will listen that since 10/7, we’ve witnessed so many miracles, it’s hard to count.
Some of these miracles are easy to recognize, like how well the beeper operation went down or how successful we were at intercepting or detonating those hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles fired at us from Iran. Twice.
Other miracles were harder to recognize.
And then we have last night.
Last night was a miracle the caliber of the splitting of the sea.
I am talking an open miracle that could and should have ended very differently.
Do not ask me for my source and if that means you don’t believe what I’m about to say, so be it. You can keep scrolling. But if you know my work, you know...
Washington, D.C. - Feb. 21, 2025 - A federal judge on Friday cleared the way for the Trump administration to pull thousands of U.S. Agency for International Development staffers off the job.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols removed his temporary block on the effort to remove all but a small fraction of USAID staffers from their posts and give those abroad a 30-day deadline to move back to the U.S. at government expense.
His ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by unions on behalf of workers. They say the rush to dismantle the agency had cut off some staffers overseas from emergency communications systems, including some in danger of political violence in Congo.
The Trump administration and the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency tied to billionaire ...

Washington, D.C. - Feb. 21, 2025 - The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Caleb Vitello, was removed from his post, administration officials and other people familiar with the matter said, amid frustration in the Trump administration that deportations haven’t accelerated faster.
The administration is shaking up the leadership at ICE and is soon expected to announce a new acting director, one of the administration officials said. Another administration official said the team at ICE would be expanded.
A spokeswoman for DHS said in a statement that Vitello is “actually being elevated so he is no longer in an administrative role, but is overseeing all field and enforcement operations: finding, arresting, and deporting illegal aliens.”
Vitello wi...
Baltimore, MD - Feb. 21, 2025 - Baltimore City Council’s Legislative Investigations Committee grilled Baltimore Gas and Electric representatives Thursday night about high-cost energy bills in recent months.
City Council President Zeke Cohen said they’re calling on BGE to provide meaningful rate relief and on the Public Service Commission to end the multi-year rate pilot and ensure the cancellation of BGE’s rate increase plan.
In 2023, the Public Service Commission approved $408 million in rate increases from 2024-2026, which Cohen said they warned against.
