Earlier this week, the FBI arrested Abdullah Azz al-Din Taha Muhammad Hassan, a Virginia resident, on suspicion of planning an attack against the Israeli consulate in New York, Israel's Consul General in New York Ofir Akunis posted on X on Thursday.
According to the indictment, Hassan was apprehended after providing detailed bomb-making and planting instructions to an undercover agent.
In response, Akunis expressed gratitude for the swift action and collaboration with American authorities to thwart the attack. He emphasized that such attempts by terrorist organizations are direct assaults against the entire State of Israel.
Akunis stated, "This serves as further proof that international terrorism knows no borders and must be fought on every front and at all time...
“Now it came to pass when Joseph came to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his shirt, of the fine woolen coat which was upon him. And they took him and cast him into the pit; now the pit was empty there was no water in it.” (Genesis 27:23-24)
From the opening verses in this week’s Parsha we see the animosity between Yosef and his brothers. The brothers feel that Yosef is arrogant and trying to lord over them. Yosef, seemingly oblivious to the impact of his dreams on his brothers, continues to share them. Tensions reach a boiling point, and when the brothers have Yosef alone, they decide it is time to eliminate him. The first thought was to kill him, but Reuven intervened and convinced the brothers to instead throw Yosef into a pit. The Torah tells that the pit w...
After the brothers castigate Yehuda for not having advised them to return Yosef to his father, and instead suggested they sell him, they depose him from his position of leadership.
The Torah reports how in dejection Yehuda 'went down' from his brothers — both literally and figuratively — meeting up with Chirah.
He marries a daughter of a prominent merchant, and she bears him three sons.
He names his first son ืขืจ alluding to notion of ืขืืจืจื — 'arousing' one's might, holding out hope that this child will bring forth the purpose of creation. (ืจืื"ื)

Israel’s consistently high rankings in the Happiness Index is fascinating. Fittingly, streets across the country have names that reflect this theme. For example, Netanya has a neighborhood filled with many joyful street names, including Ha’Gila, Ha’Rina, Ha’Ditsa, Ha’Chedva, and Tsahala.
The fact that Israel is ranked the fifth happiest country in this most challenging year of 2024 is astonishing. How can a country that has lived in a constant state of war since its inception, and is currently at war with Iran and its proxy of terror, all the while being vilified and boycotted globally, be so happy?
One explanation for the source of Israel’s happiness is that, while most countries’ populations are declining, our population is expanding dramatical...
