Lebanon and Hezbollah have agreed to a US proposal for a ceasefire with Israel with some comments on the content, a top Lebanese official told Reuters on Monday, describing the effort as the most serious yet to end to the fighting. Ali Hassan Khalil, an aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, said Lebanon had delivered its written response to the US ambassador in Lebanon on Monday, and White House envoy Amos Hochstein was traveling to Beirut to continue talks. There was no immediate comment from Israel. Hezbollah, a heavily armed movement backed by Iran, endorsed its long-time ally Berri to negotiate over a ceasefire. "Lebanon presented its comments on the paper in a positive atmosphere," Khalil said, declining to give further details. "All the comments that we presented affirm th...

Tens of thousands of British Airways passengers face delays and possible cancellations after another major IT failure. Passengers at London Heathrow Terminal 5, as well as airports abroad, say they have been told communications systems have failed. In one example, flight BA365 from Lyon to Heathrow remained on the ground in France for two hours 40 minutes, rather than the expected hour. It is now in the air but is likely to land over an hour late. The airline’s website, ba.com, and its app also appear to be down – after repeated attempts by The Independent to access the site, a message was displayed reading: “We are experiencing high demand on ba.com at the moment.” Problems began shortly after 5pm GMT. Some outbound flights British...
I have passed the house with lush green grass many times. I was always amazed at how every blade of grass seemed accounted for. They were evenly cut, with not a weed in sight. The color was a mid-to-dark green, showcasing its health. In November of 2024, I walked by once again. This time, the grass stood out even more. There had been a drought on the East Coast, and we had almost no rain. In the last two months, it had rained under two inches compared to the usual nine or so inches. Yet, the grass was lusher than ever. All the surrounding grass on neighboring properties was either weak, light green with “bald spots” or weed-filled brown patches. Somehow, that grass was perfect, as if nothing was going on, and it stood out for everyone to see. There were perfectly trimmed lines...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), known for her anti-Israel statements, appeared to suggest on Sunday that the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC was responsible for the Democrats’ poor performance in the November 5 Presidential election. “If people want to talk about members of Congress being overly influenced by a special interest group pushing a wildly unpopular agenda that pushes voters away from Democrats then they should be discussing AIPAC,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez, commonly referred to by her initials AOC, in a post on social media site X. Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the so-called “Squad” of progressive lawmakers who are known for their anti-Israel stance. Her post was a response to Jeremy Slavin, a senior adviser to Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who...

For the first time in Israel’s military history, female combat soldiers entered Lebanon as part of an operational mission. Northern Command chief Maj.-Gen. Ori Gordin approved the deployment of a team from the combat intelligence battalion into southern Lebanon several weeks ago. Since the onset of the war, the combat intelligence team, consisting of female soldiers, had been stationed near the Syrian border and in the Mount Dov region. Their tasks included gathering intelligence, identifying terrorist operatives, creating target lists, and directing fire from ground and aerial forces to neutralize threats and dismantle terrorist infrastructure. Corporal Tehila, 21, a soldier from the "Eagle" Battalion, described her experience in several operations, including identi...
Senator John Thune said Sunday that the US must pass legislation threatening the International Criminal Court with sanctions if it seeks arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or other Israeli officials. “If the ICC and its prosecutor do not reverse their outrageous and unlawful actions to pursue arrest warrants against Israeli officials, the Senate should immediately pass sanctions legislation, as the House has already done on a bipartisan basis,” Thune wrote on social media platform X. Thune will become the majority leader of the Senate in early January when Republicans officially take over Congress. He was referring to a bill calling for sanctions on ICC officials that the House passed earlier this year. ICC prosecutor Karim Khan has...
MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, two of Donald Trump's fiercest critics in the media, revealed Monday they had a face-to-face meeting last week with the president-elect, saying it was an important opportunity for those who disagree to speak with each other. "My father often spoke with world leaders with whom he and the United States profoundly disagreed," Brzezinski said, referring to diplomat Zbigniew Brzezinski. "That's a task shared by reporters and commentators alike." It was the first time they had seen Trump in seven years, Brzezinski said, and Scarborough added that they didn't see "eye to eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so." Scarborough said they went over such topics as abortion, mass deportation, and threa...
As the founding figure of our people, Avraham was entrusted with two divine missions. First, he was promised that he would father a vast and enduring nation, with descendants as numerous as the grains of sand and as influential as the celestial stars. The second divine pledge was that he would be awarded Eretz Yisrael, a land of Hashem. Leaving behind his homeland and his past, drawn by these sacred promises, he journeyed into the future of Jewish history. Courage and Vision Throughout his odyssey, Avraham faced a host of trials, each testing his faith in these dual promises. Crushing famines ravaged the promised land while an oppressive army of four tyrannical kings imposed their totalitarian rule upon the peoples of this land. When a major region of his land was slated for divine annih...
