Rachel is 47 years old.  She came into The Wellness Clinic for a consultation to consider working with us.  She had become very concerned as her weight has been climbing by about 2 kilo per year for the last 5 years and in parallel, both her sugar and blood pressure had been creeping up.  As someone who had never had health issues, this had Rachel worried.  Her doctor was quite adamant that if she wasn’t able to control her risk factors through lifestyle changes including weight loss, he was going to have to start her on medications both for her high blood sugar and her high blood pressure and as a precaution, give her a statin drug against high cholesterol.  Racheli was clearly frustrated.  “What am I doing wrong?” she asked.  “I...

He was an extraordinary mechanech, and thousands of bnos Yisrael were educated under his supervision. He became principal in 1979 when Bais Yaakov had but a few hundred girls, and at the time of his death, the school has burgeoned to over 1700 students. He famously ensured that he knew every student’s name, and took a personal interest in every single one of them. Rabbi Freedman was particularly dedicated to students with special needs. Many...
US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to reinstate its "maximum pressure" strategy against Iran, targeting Tehran’s economic stability and its ability to support militant proxies and nuclear development, The Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing sources close to the transition team. The sources revealed that the administration plans to impose stricter sanctions, particularly on Iran’s oil exports, which serve as a critical revenue source.  The anticipated sanctions could drastically reduce Iranian oil exports, which currently exceed 1.5 million barrels per day, up from a low of 400,000 barrels per day in 2020. Experts suggest that these measures would severely impact Iran’s economy. Bob McNally, an energy consultant an...

About 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike for the second time in six years on Friday after their union said it had failed to reach a pay deal with the postal operator in the run-up to the holiday season. Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, who has twice this year moved to end work disputes in other sectors, made clear he was not considering another intervention for the time being. The union is demanding wage increases in line with inflation, cost-of-living adjustment payments to be rolled into the basic wage rate, and safe working conditions. The union had issued a three-day strike notice earlier this week. "After a year of bargaining with little progress, postal workers made the difficult decision to strike, opens new tab," the Canadian Union of Postal Workers sa...

NY, NY – Nov. 15, 2024 - As the days grow shorter and darkness falls earlier, safety becomes a critical concern when walking at night on Shabbos. Whether returning from shul or a seudah, the lack of visibility, especially when wearing dark clothing, can pose serious risks. Pedestrians may be difficult for drivers to see, increasing the potential for accidents. Recognizing the importance of pedestrian safety, the Orthodox Union’s (OU) Department of Community Projects & Partnerships has been providing reflective belts free of charge to shuls since 2018. These bright yellow belts, designed to be worn over coats, enhance visibility in low-light conditions, helping to ensure safer walks home. This life-saving initiative is made possible through the generosity of Drs. Evelyn an...

Israel's strike on Iran last month destroyed an active nuclear weapons and research facility in Parchin, Axios reported, quoting three US officials, one current Israeli official, and one former Israeli official. The site was previously reported to be inactive, Axios added. However, it is now clear that the strike "significantly damaged" Iran's efforts to resume nuclear weapons research. Iran has consistently denied that it is working to achieve a nuclear weapon, and its mission to the United Nations declined to comment on the story. A former Israeli official briefed on the strike said Israel "destroyed sophisticated equipment used to design the plastic explosives that surround uranium in a nuclear device and are needed to detonate it." According ...
