A federal judge on Monday scheduled a Wednesday court hearing for Mahmoud Khalil, a recent Columbia University graduate who was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), forbidding the government from moving forward with deportation efforts before then. Lawyers for Khalil, a legal immigrant and leading pro-Palestinian demonstrator whose arrest was cheered by President Trump, have also filed a motion seeking his return to New York. Khalil’s attorney, Amy Greer, said in a statement to The Hill that it hadn’t been immediately clear where ICE took Khalil. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the unprecedented direct talks last week between representatives of the American government and representatives of the Hamas terrorist organization upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia today (Monday). "That was a one-off situation in which our special envoy for hostages, whose job it is to get people released, had an opportunity to talk directly to someone who has control over these people and was given permission and encouraged to do so. He did so," Rubio told reporters. He added that the talks that Trump hostage envoy Adam Boehler engaged in with Hamas officials had not "borne fruit." In addition, the Secretary of State clarified that the US will continue efforts to free the hostages through special envoy Steve Witkoff and other mediating countr...
U.S. stocks tumbled on Monday, with concerns about the effects of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on economic growth spooking investors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 890.01 points, or 2.08%, while the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 slid 4% and 2.69%, respectively. The Dow and the S&P 500 saw their worst day since Dec. 18; the tech-heavy Nasdaq had its worst day since September 2022. Trump on Sunday declined to explicitly rule out a full-blown recession for the U.S. economy this year, telling Maria Bartiromo in a "Sunday Morning Futures" exclusive interview that the country will see a "period of transition" as his policies take effect."I hate to predict things like that," he said of a recession. "There is a period of transition...
A delegation of Israeli negotiators departed for Doha on Monday afternoon and is expected to begin indirect talks with Hamas later in the day through mediators, based on a framework proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special Mideast envoy, Steve Witkoff. The initial discussions will focus on the structure of the negotiations and the issues to be addressed. Witkoff himself is expected to join the talks on Tuesday or Wednesday. In an interview with Fox News earlier in the day, Witkoff said, “We need deadlines” for the next stage of the cease-fire deal, reiterating his claim that this is the only way to advance the stalled negotiations. Last week he stressed that “Trump has had enough.” According to Witkoff, “This has to happen. The way these host...
The Knesset's (Israeli parliament's) Special Committee for Foreign Workers held a discussion on Sunday to examine the needs of wounded and disabled IDF soldiers and the response foreign caregivers could provide. During the discussion, data from the Defense Minister revealed that the number of registered IDF wounded and disabled veterans rose from 62,000 to 78,000 since the war began on October 7, 2023. "Most of them are reservists and 51 percent of the wounded are up to 30 years old," the ministry's report said. The number will increase, the ministry assesses, as post-trauma cases emerge. The committee chairwoman, Knesset member Etty Atiya (Likud), emphasized the need to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy for the wounded and to remove obstacles. "There is no dispute that the I...

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened with a loss of 1 percent Monday, falling 402 points after the opening bell. The Nasdaq composite was down 2.9 percent, and the S&P 500 index was down 1.8 percent. Baltimore, MD - Mar. 10, 2025  - Baltimore City will begin enforcing parking rules 24-7 beginning Monday. “The 24-hour enforcement plan would help to improve parking compliance as overnight enforcement will allow agents to cite habitual offenders, including commercial vehicles parked illegally,” Mayor Brandon Scott said. The mayor says the city is stepping up a service that’s been lacking, saying it will give neighborhoods some much-needed attention. “Towable offenses such as abandoned vehicles can also be cited,” Scott said. More parking tickets means more revenue for the city.
Annapolis, MD - March 10, 2025 -  Questions are mounting about the state's management and the governor’s leadership as Maryland faces a historic budget deficit that ballooned to $3.3 billion, alongside substantial proposed tax and fee increases. A last-minute business service tax bill introduced earlier this week in the Maryland General Assembly has Tyrone Keys, a financial services and real estate expert, preparing for a potential 2.5% tax hike.
Maryland definitely has a management issue,” Keys said. “They refuse to entertain options that would bring in revenue over the long term, and that would look to attract businesses, families, individuals into this state to start paying into the existing tax base.”

On the fourteenth of Adar, we celebrate Purim. The principal mitzvot of the holiday are reading Megillat Esther, giving gifts to the poor, sending packages of food and drink to friends, and holding a Purim feast. But the holiday includes many other customs, too, such as spinning noisemakers, eating hamantaschen, and, of course, dressing up in fancy costumes. The Lubavitcher Rebbe called on us to learn an important lesson from the costumes: “When we see someone dressed up on Purim as a frightening animal or a clown, it doesn’t occur to us to be angry, or afraid, or to take that person seriously. After all, it’s just a costume. But in everyday life we frequently meet people who seem to be walking around in disguise. One is disguised as someone arrogant, another as someone ...
