Baltimore, MD - Aug. 18, 2024  - After a flood of protests from the Jewish community, including the recently formed Council of Baltimore Region Activists (COBRA), it was announced last night that Ayman Nassar had resigned his recent appointment by Attorney General Anthony Brown  to serve on Maryland's Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention.  Nassar's resignation follows revelations of Mr. Nassar's extremism in a recent JNS article by Ben Baird of the Middle East Forum. As detailed in the article, Mr. Nassar is chair of  the Aafia Foundation, which advocates for the release of a convicted terrorist, and which promotes the very attitudes and biases which the Commission is charged with combating.  The Found...
Just ahead of the new school year and in the face of rising antisemitism on college campuses across the United States, one young man stands out as a powerful voice for change. Shabbos Kestenbaum, a recent graduate of Harvard University, has become a prominent figure in the fight against discrimination and harassment of Jewish students on college campuses.  Kestenbaum's path to becoming an outspoken advocate began in 2017 with his decision to attend Aish Gesher, a program that would prove instrumental in shaping his future. "Aish Gesher was pretty new at the time," Kestenbaum recalls. "There was no one from my high school SAR who had gone before, very few individuals from modern Orthodox schools who had gone." The program's mission to inspire Jews across the world by teachin...
A 50-year-old man was killed on Sunday evening when a truck exploded on Lehi Street in Tel Aviv. The MDA team that was called to the scene pronounced him dead. At the same time, a 33-year-old man who was moderately injured by shrapnel was treated and taken to Ichilov Hospital. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident, and have not ruled out a nationalist motive. The ISA is also involved in the investigation. Tel Aviv District Police Commander Peretz Amar stated at the scene: "The man who was killed was not an innocent civilian but rather was carrying the bomb. We are attempting to identify the body. The terror angle is very relevant." One of the suspicions is that the man was a terrorist who was taking the bomb from the Hatikva neighborhood where it exploded as th...
A US official warned that Iran would face "cataclysmic" consequences and derail momentum toward a Gaza truce if it strikes Israel in response to the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, AFP reported. The United States "would encourage the Iranians -- and I know many are -- not to move down that road, because the consequences could be quite cataclysmic, particularly for Iran," a senior US official told reporters on customary condition of anonymity. The comments were made on Friday, after President Joe Biden said that a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage release deal were closer than ever. In that statement, Biden said that “with the comprehensive ceasefire and hostage release deal now in sight, no one in the region should take actions to undermin...

Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv - Aug. 18, 2024  - This morning (Sunday), employees of the Jewish National Fund (KKL), led by the chairman of the workers' union, Israel Goldstein, visited the orthopedic rehabilitation department at Tel Hashomer Hospital, where IDF soldiers injured over the past ten months since the start of the "Iron Swords" War are being treated. During the visit, workers met with soldiers who were injured in the battles and gave them dozens of laptops and tablets worth thousands of shekels, with the thought of helping the injured soldiers go through the grueling rehabilitation process in the best possible way and providing them with the ability to enjoy their leisure time between the many treatments. According to data from the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of...

He struggled with the terrorist but was severely injured and later in the evening succumbed to his injuries at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. Peri served in the IDF as a communications officer and served on reserve duty in northern Israel and Gaza. IDF forces were called to the scene and are searching for the assailant. Initially, it was reported that the terrorist was entrenched in the industrial area but security officials later said t...
As part of the medical efforts for the Gaza Strip led by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the entry to the Gaza Strip of vaccines for disease and epidemic prevention is being facilitated. This includes the entry of medical teams and vaccines against the polio virus. Since the beginning of the war, COGAT has coordinated the entry of 282,126 vials of the polio vaccine, sufficient for 2,821,260 doses, into Gaza. Since the discovery of the virus in July, and as part of the vaccination campaign, 9,000 vials were brought through the Kerem Shalom crossing, providing 90,000 additional doses of the vaccine. In the coming weeks, 43,250 vials of vaccine, tailored to the virus found in environmental samples, are expected to arrive in Israel and will enter the Gaza...
Boys look forward to and enjoy color war! Each game is counted for points towards victory. As a division head I enjoy watching these games. There are different challenges than the boys are used to from the rest of the summer and it’s great to see boys shine in a different light. On day 1 of color war, my division played dodgeball, blue against red. The game was going great until red had only one team member, Simcha, while blue had 10! I noticed that this was the same boy who had been the “chicken” in the back hiding from everyone. One after another the balls were thrown around, and the player in red kept on getting his opponent out. With his team cheering on the side, Simcha overcame nine out of ten opponents. The boys couldn’t believe what they were seeing. This ...
More Than Just Repair We have seen how challenges can shake our confidence and hinder growth. In truth, Hashem intends the opposite effect — He orchestrates these challenges to foster our spiritual growth.[1] As the Yalkut Shimoni puts it, “If I had not fallen, I would not have gotten up.”[2] The rise after the fall more than just repairs the fall. It has additional independent value. Rav Yitzchak Hutner[3] understood this to be the intention of the pasuk “Sheva yipol tzaddik v’kam.”[4] Rebounding from a fall is not just the sign of a tzaddik. It is also how we become one. Falls help us become tzaddikim because they help us grow. How? Appreciation On the most basic level, challenges inspire reflection and appreciation. The need to work hard to reg...
A senior Hamas official revealed new details about the recent US proposal, presented during ceasefire negotiations held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, according to the Saudi Asharq News channel on Sunday. The discussed proposal reportedly includes reduced Israeli miliatary presence on the Philadelphia Corridor, and not a withdrawal from it, alongside the return of the Palestinian Authority to administer the smuggling chokepoint in southern Gaza Strip. The nature of collaboration between the PA and Israeli forces have not yet been determined, as Israel will still maintain a presence. The senior source also emphasized that the US proposal includes Israeli supervision at the Netzarim Corridor, vetting Gazans returning to northern Gaza, although the nature of this has also not yet...
Hamas, the Palestinian jihadist group at war with Israel, planned to exhume century-old graves of British soldiers in the Gaza Strip and use the remains as leverage to blackmail the British government, the Telegraph reported Friday.  Israeli forces fighting against Hamas in Gaza uncovered a seven-page document detailing the malodorous plan, dated October 5, 2022. It is understood the document links the plan to Yahya Sinwar, the then-Hamas leader in Gaza, who would go on to orchestrate the October 7 massacre. He was recently named as the new chief of the Hamas politbureau after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. The document outlined the jihadists' strategy to pressure the UK government into reversing its stance on Jerusalem following then-Prime Minister Liz Truss...
Hamas is under pressure to accept the United States “bridging proposal” for a Gaza hostage deal as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to arrive in Israel on Sunday in advance of what Washington hopes will be a final round of negotiations set for Cairo on Wednesday.  “There is no answer from Hamas,” a source told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday, explaining that “there is heavy pressure on Hamas” from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to “give a positive response.” Those two Arab countries have been the main mediators for the deal, with the support of the US. The US and Israel expressed cautious optimism after CIA Director William Burns held two days of talks in Doha that ended Friday. US special envoy Brett McGurk, Qatari Pr...
On the last day of Fuad Shukr’s life, he was in his office on the second floor of a Beirut residential building, when that evening, Shukr received a phone call at 7 p.m. in which he was told to go to his apartment on the seventh floor where he was shortly thereafter killed, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a Hezbollah official.  The explosion also killed his wife, two other women, and two children, and 70 individuals were wounded, according to Lebanon’s Hezbollah-run health ministry. The call that urged Shukr to move to the seventh floor of the building likely came from an individual who had infiltrated Hezbollah’s internal communications network, the WSJ reported, citing the Hezbollah official.  Hezbollah and Iran are still invest...
