Baltimore, MD  - July 8, 2024 - Most medical students at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore will attend at no cost thanks to a $1 billion gift announced Monday by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The donation also increases financial aid for students at its schools of nursing, public health, and other graduate schools. Living expenses and fees will be covered for students from families who earn up to $175,000. “As the U.S. struggles to recover from a disturbing decline in life expectancy, our country faces a serious shortage of doctors, nurses, and public health professionals – and yet, the high cost of medical, nursing, and graduate school too...
The Hamas terrorist organization responded to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement outlining Israel's red lines in the negotiations with Hamas for the release of the hostages. "At a time when we are showing flexibility and a positive approach to facilitate reaching an agreement to end the aggression, Netanyahu is placing additional obstacles before the negotiations, escalating his aggression and his crimes against our people and continuing his attempts forcibly displace them in order to thwart all efforts to reach an agreement," the Hamas statement said. The terrorist organization continued, "We demand that the mediators intervene to put an end to Netanyahu's games and his crimes, and we demand that the international community and the UN fulfill their legal and...

Jewish Unity: From Milwaukee to Herzliya "Each morning, first thing, before I eat or drink anything, I say a chapter of Tehillim for 'my hostage.'" This is what Hedva Federman said while driving me to Chicago from Milwaukee, where I had given a series of lectures at events organized by Chabad. "There was an event held here, where everyone was encouraged to 'adopt' a hostage, and pray for them," Hedva explained. "I adopted Omer Shem Tov, whom I was told is 21, and so I have been reciting Psalm 22 every day for him." (There is a custom to recite the number of the Psalm that corresponds to the number of a person's upcoming birthday, for Divine protection.) "Wait, he didn't turn 22 yet, right?" Hedva asked. "Because then, I'd have to be saying Psalm 23." ...

President Biden on Monday bluntly rejected suggestions that he bow out of the presidential race in a letter to congressional Democrats, arguing it would undermine the preference of voters and ignore his record. The president, in a letter shared by his campaign, spoke directly to drama that has engulfed the Democratic Party since his disastrous debate performance June 27 and called for lawmakers to unite behind his candidacy. “The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” Biden wrote. “Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together.” A growing number of Democrats have in recent days come forward to suggest B...

Agreeing to a deal with Hamas would constitute “a defeat and humiliation for Israel and a victory for [Hama leader Yahya] Sinwar,” Religious Zionism chief Bezalel Smotrich warns ahead of the Israeli negotiating team’s departure for further hostage deal talks in Cairo and Doha later this week. Addressing reporters ahead of his Religious Zionism party’s weekly faction meeting in the Knesset, the hard-right finance minister claims that a deal like the one being negotiated “will sentence to death 90 hostages who are not part of the deal and it will lead to thousands of murdered people who will die in the next massacre by Sinwar and Hamas.” “This is the picture we will see in Gaza if we, God forbid, sign this irresponsible deal,” he said holding...
Created Only After Man Human beings are different than the rest of the world’s species. We are the only ones who believe that our lives are supposed to matter and, thus, the only ones who become depressed when we feel like we are not impactful. These feelings emanate from Hashem's having created us in His image, which endowed us with the ability and responsibility to direct the rest of creation. This role sets us apart and empowers us in the grand scheme of the world's development.[1] Hashem created man with a sense of responsibility for the world and the world as dependent upon man. We see this dependency from the delay of the emergence of the world’s vegetation until man was created to cultivate it.[2] Hashem could have developed the world without, or at least bef...

Until now, polls projected the far-right party to win elections. Attal said he would submit his resi...
The State Control Committee on Monday will hold a discussion regarding the matter of haredi IDF battalions, initiated by MK Meir Cohen of Yesh Atid. Ahead of the meeting, Cohen ordered a survey on steps which could potentially increase the number of Charedim enlisting in the IDF. The survey, published by Maariv, showed that in response to the question, "If the IDF created a variety of units in which there were conditions which allow Charedi men to preserve their lifestyle, would this increase the chance that more haredi men would enlist in the IDF?" over 60% of respondents answered in the affirmative. According to the report, the percentage of respondents who believe that such adjustments would lead to more haredim enlisting is higher among older respondents (age 40 and up) and Cha...
