Many people associate being Jewish with being hated. Hashem has a different association. Though He created all human beings in His image, the Jewish people have a special place in Hashem’s world and are especially beloved to Him. Hashem determined the nations of the world and their place on the map based on the future of the Jewish people. This concept is beautifully expressed by Shirat Ha’azinu, the Torah’s song of praise and prophecy, which begins its description of world history by making this point: “When the Most High (Hashem) gave nations their homes and set the divisions of humanity, He fixed the boundaries of peoples in relation to Israel’s numbers.”[1] Where Our Relationship Began Sefer Shemot recounts how Hashem established His special rel...

How do we remain optimistic when those around us despair? In this week’s Torah portion, only two of the twelve spies — Yehoshua and Kalev — did not despair after their 40-day tour of the land of Canaan. Ten spies saw the land and panicked, feeling threatened by the giants who lived there. They abandoned their dream, believing it would be a grave mistake to settle in the land of Israel. Only Yehoshua and Kalev dared to oppose their thinking and declared: “The land is very, very good.” Today we recognize their foresight and courage. What empowers an optimistic minority to stand firmly against a pessimistic majority? Rashi’s commentary provides insights, guiding us to look both to the past and to the future for strength. Regarding the past, Rashi explain...
The Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, criticized the Supreme Court judges following their ruling on the draft law. "These secular judges who do not know a single page of Talmud - what do they know? They do not come close to the ankles of our rabbis. There is no need to fear them." On Tuesday, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the state is obligated to draft yeshiva students into the army, in the absence of a "legal framework" that allows for distinguishing between yeshiva students and other candidates for military service. "The state does not have the authority to order a blanket exemption from enlistment, and it must act in accordance with the provisions of the Defense Service Law. In the absence of a legal framework for exemption from enlistment, it is not p...
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that Iran's message of an "obliterating war" made it worthy of destruction. "A regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed," Katz said in a post on X. He also said Israel will act with full force against Iran-backed Hezbollah if it does not stop firing at Israel from Lebanon and move away from the border. Iran's UN mission said on Friday that if Israel embarks on a "full-scale military aggression" in Lebanon, "an obliterating war will ensue." The Iranian mission also said in the post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that in such an event "all options, incl. the full involvement of all resistance fronts, are on the table." Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with Israel since October, in parallel with t...
Iran on Saturday threatened Israel with an "obliterating war" if it launched an extensive attack in Lebanon. "Albeit Iran deems as psychological warfare the Zionist regime’s propaganda about intending to attack Lebanon, should it embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue. All options, including the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table," the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN wrote on X. Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz commented on the threats "Iran threatens today to destroy Israel if Israel fully responds to Hezbollah attacks from Lebanon. "My response to Iran is clear: "1. If Hezbollah does not cease its fire and withdraw from southern Lebanon, we will act against it with full force until sec...
A coalition of faith and civil leaders is demanding that New York State reinstate its law banning wearing masks in public places after months of violent anti-Israel protesters wearing face coverings. The campaign, called Unmask NY, has garnered the support of Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City. “New York City will always defend your right to free speech and will continue to protect public health, but we are increasingly seeing masked protestors using anonymity to intimidate, threaten and break the law,” Adams said on Thursday. “This behavior is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it.” The mayor spoke outside of Columbia University’s campus, which was the site of a pro-Hamas encampment this spring where protesters, many of them mas...
Israel’s Consul General in New York, Ofir Akunis, warned in an interview with The New York Post that the Big Apple is in danger of falling under “radical Muslim occupation” like many cities in Europe. “You know what's happening in London these days, you know what’s happening in Paris these days and in Malmo, a major city in Sweden? They are under radical Muslim occupation,” said Akunis. “There are no-go zones and I don’t want that to happen here in New York or in other places here in the United States,” he told The Post. “They burned an American flag right here, in front of the doors of the [Manhattan] consulate. “I’m calling on New Yorkers: wake up before it will be too late!” ad...
The Arab League no longer defines Hezbollah as a proscribed terrorist group, an official said on Saturday.  Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based Shiite militia and a proxy of the Islamic regime in Iran, boasts the world's largest rocket arsenal of any non-state actor. It is animated by the antisemitic ideology of jihad and is committed to the destruction of Israel.   “In earlier Arab League decisions, Hezbollah was designated as a terrorist organization, and this designation was reflected in the resolutions,” Hossam Zaki, the assistant secretary-general of the Arab League, was quoted in Arab media as saying. “The League's member states concurred that the labeling of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization should no longer be employed,” Zaki said, add...
A Hamas source says that his organization has received a message from the mediators of the hostage negotiations that included minor changes to the previous offer. He noted that "there is a movement to attempt to restart the negotiations from the beginning. After that, they will try to bridge what's left." A source told Axios that that if Hamas agrees to the new language presented by the US "it will allow to close the deal." Later, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that "the situation in Gaza may by no means continue and we call the international community to take responsibility." Regarding the reported messages and offers, "We say that the occupation is still avoiding a commitment to end the war." According to Hamdan, "The Biden administration continues to blame Ha...

The White House is seeking roughly $4 billion in additional emergency funding from Congress for costs related to the collapse and repair of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore and to respond to other disasters that have occurred around the U.S. in recent months. That money is part of a new emergency request from President Joe Biden’s administration that essentially re-ups a broader, $56 billion ask from last October that Congress virtually ignored. Now, the Democratic administration is asking for that same pot of money again, but with billions added to deal with the bridge reconstruction and related costs. More specifically, the Biden administration wants an additional $3.1 billion for the Department of Transportation, which would go toward rebuilding Key Bridge wit...
Baltimore, MD - June 29, 2024 -  A federal judge has denied former Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby's request to travel out-of state for a paid speaking engagement while on home detention. Last month judge Lydia Kay Griggsby sentenced Mosby to three years of supervised probation, with one year of home monitoring, except for when working. A jury convicted Mosby of two counts of perjury, and one count of making false statements on a home mortgage application. Her public defender on Thursday asked Griggsby to approve July trip to New Orleans for the Essence Festival of Culture, which they describe as "one of the largest and most influential African-Americanfestivals in the country." Mosby's defense team claims the trip would help supply her a steady income...
President Joe Biden is expected to discuss the future of his re-election campaign with family at Camp David on Sunday, following a nationally televised debate Thursday that left many fellow Democrats worried about his ability to beat former President Donald Trump in November, according to five people familiar with the matter. Biden’s trip was planned before Thursday’s debate. He and first lady Jill Biden are scheduled to join their children and grandchildren there late Saturday. So far, the party’s top leaders have offered public support for Biden, including in tweets posted by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Senior congressional Democrats, including Reps. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Jim Clyburn of South Carolina...
Fmr. IDF Personnel Directorate Chief Major General (Res.) Moti Almoz commented in an interview with the Israeli Meet the Press on the ongoing war in Gaza. "This is a war against terror and therefore one must understand that we will be in Gaza for at least the next decade. We will hear that there are brigade-level operations underway in various cities from time to time. There is no other way - this is not a job for one year, nor two or three." He sees no signs of de-escalation in the north in the near future either. "In this region, agreements don't last long. Against terrorism, we have not found the solution that is not force." "In Lebanon, we tried everything else - now what will guarantee the security of northern Israel?" Almoz also criticized: "I think the Disengageme...
