A poll released Monday in the closely watched race for U.S. Senate found Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D) with an 11-point lead over former Gov. Larry Hogan (R) in a matchup that included third-party and independent candidates. She had an 8-point margin over Hogan in a head-to-head race. The poll, conducted by the North Carolina firm Public Policy Polling, surveyed 635 registered voters last Wednesday and Thursday. It had a 3.9-point margin of error. PPP is generally hired by Democrats, but does not poll for them exclusively. The firm did not immediately respond Monday to a question about who had commissioned the Maryland poll. In a head-to-head matchup with Hogan, Alsobrooks led 48% to 40%. When other candidates were included, survey respondents gave Alsobro...
Baltimore, MD - June 26, 2024  - Your heart is pounding, and your palms are sweaty. You know the danger ahead and you’ve prepared as best as you can. You grab your bag, straighten your back, take a deep breath, and enter. You’re a brand-new teacher and it’s your first day of school. You’re feeling anxious and unsure of what’s to come. At Jewish Educational Services, the New Teacher Cohort (NTC) strives to alleviate those feelings by providing coaching and peer support and much more. Research shows that teachers who receive coaching and support are reflective, make better use of feedback and are more effective in the classrooms which has a direct impact on their students having better learning experiences and outcomes. Most importantly, they are also more...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Wednesday, 26 June 2024), at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem, met with US Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), and thanked him for his visit and for his consistent support of Israel. The Prime Minister told him that his standing up to pro-Palestinian demonstrators, while waving an Israeli flag, was both courageous and heart-warming. Prime Minister Netanyahu: "We've been through dark times in these months of anguish war. During that time, I can say that Israel has had no better friend than Senator John Fetterman. Senator, welcome to Israel. I want to thank you for your courageous statements that show moral clarity and moral courage and you just say it the way it is. We appreciate this friendship at all times but especially at thes...

Baltimore, MD - June 26, 2024 - A nice little helping of good news with a large heap of bad news as summer 2024 gets underway. Let’s start with the bad news. Perhaps my favorite spot in Baltimore, Sushi Sakura (3755 Old Court Rd, Pikesville, MD 21208, in the “Gucci” Giant shopping center), which opened in Fall 2021, has sadly sold to new owners and is no longer kosher, announced on its Facebook page. Why would I be upset at the closing of yet another place that sells sushi in a town where almost every place sells sushi? I mean, seriously. Sushi is currently available at nearly every place in town: Obviously the Asian restaurants (Chu’s, Ta’am Thai), but also both supermarkets (Seven Mile, Maven), various meat places (Accents, Serengeti, Knish Shop, Kosh...

George Latimer has unseated Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) in the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projects, delivering a stinging blow to progressives in what has been the party’s most divisive primary of the cycle. Latimer, a Westchester County executive, defeated Bowman in a fierce contest that became a proxy battle between differing ideological factions of the Democratic Party, with the pivotal issue separating the candidates being their stances toward Israel amid the country’s ongoing war with Palestinian militant group Hamas. Millions of dollars poured into the race from both inside and outside the district, making it the most expensive House primary in history. Leaders of both wings of the party weigh...
A New York judge on Tuesday partially lifted a gag order imposed on former President Trump’s speech in his hush money criminal case.   The updated terms allow Trump to resume speaking about trial witnesses including Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels, whom he has attacked incessantly. The partial lifting of the order comes just days before the first 2024 presidential debate Thursday, where Trump is expected to address his conviction in the case. The gag order remains in place when it comes to prosecutors overseeing the case, with the exception of District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) as well as Judge Juan Merchan, though Merchan said he’d lift those restrictions after the July 11 sentencing.  The partial lift will allow Trump to address the jury that convicted him last m...
Maryland added 6,400 total jobs in May, including 5,200 in the private sector. According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, the labor force participation rate rose by 0.1 percent to 65.3 percent in May. This means more workers are available to take jobs. It also provides a fuller picture of statewide employment in the weeks following the bridge collapse. Between March and May of this year, statewide employment fell by 1,600 jobs in that sector. "The jobs data released today is encouraging. More Marylanders are looking for jobs, and through the great workforce partnerships we have in place in expanding industries like healthcare, we can meet the needs of businesses and job seekers,” said Portia Wu, Maryland’s Secretary of Labor. Maryland’s unemployment rate re...
