The following is information that was obtained from the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office today regarding this case. This is a criminal case where the defendant is charged with BURGLARY- 4TH DEGREE and MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY at a community member’s residence.

Jessica Baldwin Bowes, Policy and Legislative Affairs, NW Liaison reported the following latest details regarding State vs. Danard McDaniels, case number 6B02366013.

Mr. McDaniels appeared in court today. He was arraigned and advised of his right to an attorney. The prosecutor did not make him an offer. The Court scheduled a trial at the Wabash Courthouse in Room 6 on 12/22/17.

The Early Resolution Chief Patricia Deros reported that the judge will not postpone this case, due to the defendant being arraigned and advised already of his rights. Mr. McDaniels will have a District Court trial on 12/22 or he may exercise his right to pray a Jury Trial, which would be scheduled for a later date.

In any event, Ms. Bowes will have all of the impact statements ready to go to be submitted to the judge for consideration during sentencing. She currently has over 250 impact statements from concerned families and businesses, many of which shared their addresses to indicate to the judge that they indeed live or work within the community.

The State’s Attorney’s office truly appreciated Councilman Isaac "Yitzy" Schleifer for spearheading this effort and our advocacy. They specifically thanked us for our engagement and commitment to public safety.

Community members may attend the trial. The State’s Attorney’s office requests that we, keep them updated so they can be aware of what to expect and share those expectations with their attorneys and the judge.

Re: State of Maryland V. Danard McDaniels

Case Number: 6B02366013

Your Honor,

This letter is an impact statement on behalf of my family.

Danard McDaniels’ criminal acts impacted our safety and quality of life. On November 8, 2017, Mr. McDaniels broke into at least one home in our community in order to commit a burglary. There was also three other break-ins in the immediate area.

This incident took place at 9:30 in the morning in broad daylight. If the citizens of Baltimore City cannot feel safe in their own homes, is there any place we can feel safe? The emotional impact Mr. McDaniels caused our community will be felt for years to come. Many residents are now afraid that someone will break into their residence while they are home. We don’t want to be held hostage in our community.

Mr. McDaniels should be punished to the full extent of the law. A clear message needs to be sent that crime will not be tolerated in our community.
We thank you for your time, and appreciate your consideration of this statement during sentencing.

Sincerely,
