Last week, a Jerusalem store advertised yarmulkes made of alligator hide and snake skin. The advertisement led to nature preservation inspectors to visit the store and they confiscated the alligator hide kippot. They were being sold for thousands of shekels each.

According to a Yediot Achronot article, the advert from the store alerted inspectors, and when they arrived they found kippot and mezuzah cases that were imported without the necessary permits.

The law in Israel prohibits the import and trade of items originating from wild animals without their origin being examined and approved in advance by the Authority. The law is anchored in international conventions.
