As Jerusalem is busy preparing for the 50th anniversary of the liberation from Jordanian occupation, the Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research reports the Jewish population of the capital has increased 174%, from 197,700 in 1967 to 542,000 today.

It is added that in 2015, about 24,000 babies were born in the capital, compromising 13% of all births in Israel. While the nationwide average number of children per family is 3.1, in Yerushalayim that figure stands at 3.9.

Fertility rates among Jews in the capital is up, while it is declining among Arabs. This is due to the growing chareidi population in the capital.
