“Light the Lights” MatchAThon.com campaign to relieve financial burden for Cheder Chabad’s families.
Baltimore, MD – Dec. 28, 2016 - This years’ “Light the Lights” campaign will take the educational lessons of sharing and caring to a practical, community wide level. Students and families will share the lights of Chanukah with as many as possible by distributing free “Light the Lights” menorah kits.
After extremely successful cyber fundraising campaigns in 2014 and 2015 – when families and staff joined together to raise more than 150% of their goal in one single day –the Cheder Chabad school is now fundraising $200,000 in just one day!
The matching campaign, which Cheder Chabad pioneered in Baltimore back in June of 2014, allows donors to ‘quadruple the impact of their donations.’ For every $1 given, the school’s scholarship fund receives $4, thanks to three groups of matchers who have committed to help us reach our $200,000 goal.
“This year we are taking it a step further, not only are we looking to fundraise to support our school, we are also looking for additional ways to spread more light into the Baltimore community,” said Cheder Chabad’s PTA President, Mrs. Sheva Givre.
Last time, the goal was quickly met within a couple hours and another donor helped match additional donations. Organizers are optimistic that once again, they will surpass their goal.
“Last year we set the bar for 72K and we blew it away. We are confident that we will easily reach and surpass the current goal,” said Mrs. Rikal Kaler, whose three daughters attend the Cheder.
The older students – Cheder Chabad provides quality Jewish and general education for infants through middle school – decorated the school with “Light the Lights” decorations and colors that culminates in a 24 hour cyber fundraising drive through MatchAThon.com on Wednesday, December 28, just in time for end-of-year charitable contributions.
The younger students are also getting excited as they join their parents and older siblings in spreading the lights and joy of Chanukah. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, consistently stressed the famous axiom “A bit of light dispels great darkness.” Every single good deed, no matter how minute, has an everlasting positive effect, dispelling the forces of great darkness and negativity. Though the Rebbe has passed away 22 years ago, he continues to inspire his followers to practice loving-kindness, as taught explicitly and through example by the dedicated teachers at Cheder Chabad.
Cheder Chabad, which boasts a hands-on and multi-sensory instruction to meet the needs of each individual student – has a total student body of 210 children, 75% of whom are granted scholarships designed so that no Jewish child should be denied a Jewish education for lack of funds. The money raised on December 28 will go directly into the scholarship fund to ensure that the school can continue to provide quality Torah and general studies education regardless of a family’s income bracket.
