Baltimore County, MD - Mar. 18, 2026 - Baltimore County recorded its lowest levels of violent crime in five years in 2025, alongside record-breaking case clearance rates, the Baltimore County Police Department (BCoPD) announced Wednesday.

BCoPD reported a 93% clearance rate for homicides and a 95% clearance rate for non-fatal shootings in 2025—both the highest levels in the past five years and well above national averages.

At the same time, the total number of homicides dropped significantly.

The county recorded 28 homicides in 2025, down from 55 in 2021—a 49% decrease and the lowest total in the five-year period.

Non-fatal shootings also declined sharply, falling from 75 incidents in 2021 to 41 in 2025, a reduction of more than 45%.

Year-over-year data shows a steady improvement in case resolution.

The decrease in homicides and non-fatal shootings underscores the Department’s ongoing focus on prevention, community engagement, and the implementation of successful enforcement strategies,” said Chief Robert McCullough, via press release. “Preventing crime and holding those responsible accountable are both essential to maintaining safe communities across Baltimore County. This work would not be possible without the dedication of our patrol officers, who are often first on scene, and our detectives, who work tirelessly to investigate these cases and bring them to a close.Homicide clearance rates rose from 87% in 2021 to 93% in 2025, while non-fatal shooting clearance rates increased from 80% to 95% during the same period.Officials noted that the figures reflect finalized end-of-year data, which undergoes a comprehensive review and validation process before submission to the FBI.
