Four coffins of deceased hostages, escorted by IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) forces, crossed the border into the State of Israel on Monday evening.
The IDF and the Shin Bet said in a joint statement that the coffins are on their way to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine, where identification procedures will be carried out.
IDF representatives are accompanying the families.
“The IDF urges the public to act with sensitivity and wait for official identification, which will first be communicated to the families of the deceased hostages,” the statement said.
Before crossing into Israeli territory, a military protocol was held in the Gaza Strip in memory of the slain hostages. During the protocol, IDF soldiers draped the hostages’ coffins with Israeli flags, saluted them, and recited a chapter from the Book of Psalms.
Earlier, the IDF and Shin Bet announced that the Red Cross has received two coffins of deceased hostages and are on their way to IDF and Shin Bet forces in the Gaza Strip, where two additional coffins of deceased hostages, that were received earlier, are located.
The Hamas terrorist organization announced on Monday the names of four deceased hostages whose bodies would be returned: Guy Illouz, Yossi Sharabi, Bipin Joshi, and Daniel Perez.
The bodies of 24 additional hostages remain in captivity in the Gaza Strip.
