Dallas, TX – Sept. 24, 2025 – A sniper attack on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas left one detainee dead and two others injured on Wednesday before the gunman, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, took his own life. Authorities said Jahn opened fire from a nearby rooftop, using ammunition inscribed with anti-ICE slogans, and targeted both the facility and ICE transport vehicles.
Homeland Security officials described the incident as a “calculated strike” against law enforcement, underscoring that the bullets were aimed not only at detainees but also at officers, attorneys, and civilians near the busy I-35 corridor. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the shooter’s motives were tied to anti-ICE sentiment, calling the assault part of an escalating pattern of politically motivated violence.
The shooting sparked strong reactions across the political spectrum. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem condemned what she called the dangerous demonization of ICE, warning that comparing officers to Nazis or secret police has “real consequences.” President Donald Trump called the gunman a “deranged radical leftist” and pledged to sign an executive order targeting domestic terrorism networks. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vowed state support for ICE operations, describing the event as an “assassination attempt.”
Democratic leaders also denounced the attack, though they focused on calls for restraint. The Texas Democratic Delegation labeled the shooting “horrifying” and urged both parties to avoid rhetoric that inflames divisions. House Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar released a joint statement condemning politically motivated violence and praising first responders. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson appealed for patience and prayer as investigators continue their work.
The FBI is treating the shooting as a targeted act of violence, with early findings pointing to Jahn’s criminal history and anti-ICE views. Officials said bullets pierced the ICE lobby and nearby vehicles, creating the risk of even broader civilian casualties. The attack follows a string of politically charged assaults in recent months, including the assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah, fueling fears of a rising wave of violence tied to partisan rhetoric.
