Baltimore, MD - July 30, 2025 - The Baltimore City Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that new automated traffic enforcement cameras will be activated next month in a continued effort to enhance roadway safety—particularly around schools and along truck-restricted routes.
Beginning on or about August 11, speed enforcement cameras will be installed in two additional school zones:
These cameras will operate Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. year-round, targeting drivers who exceed the posted speed limit by 12 mph or more.
Violations carry a $40 fine, though no points will be added to a driver’s license.
Baltimore’s Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES) aims to reduce speeding and improve safety for students and pedestrians.
In addition to speed enforcement, the city will roll out a new commercial vehicle height monitoring system on the 1200 block of N. Gay Street on or about August 11.
These cameras will operate 24/7, detecting trucks taller than 12.5 feet traveling on roadways that are restricted to commercial vehicles due to infrastructure concerns.
Violations will result in:
Truck drivers may avoid penalties if they provide documentation—such as a bill of lading or Maryland One permit—proving that they were making a local delivery.
The Department of Transportation notes that enforcement at these locations may be temporary, rotating, or permanent.
