Leave It to the Pros: Fire Officials Demonstrate Fireworks Safety

Howard County, MD - June 27, 2025 - This morning, the Office of the State Fire Marshal teamed up with the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services to share fireworks safety tips with the media, including a live demo by our Bomb Squad showing the dangers of improper use.

With public shows scheduled across Maryland, we’re urging everyone to leave fireworks to the pros.

If you still choose to use consumer fireworks, remember:

Use only legal fireworks where you bought them

Never allow children to handle them

Avoid alcohol while using fireworks

Keep water or a hose nearby

Soak used fireworks before disposal

Illegal fireworks = $250 fine & confiscation
