Full power has been restored Monday at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport after an hours-long outage.

Airport officials said full power was restored around 11:15 a.m. The outage also impacted all electricity, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. Crews handed out water bottles to travelers.

During the outage, some airlines used "air stairs" to deplane passengers. The power outage impacted areas of the main terminal and the hourly garage, an airport spokesman said.

Airline flights continued to operate, though delays persisted. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for updated flight status information.

"I was waiting at my gate to get on my flight, the power went out. They said, 'Give us 10 minutes to reboot the computers.' We got on the flight, but once we got on the flight, we started getting text messages that the time was being pushed back 30 minutes, then 10 minutes later, another 30 minutes. It got to the point of two hours of sitting on the runway. Luckily, it was cold outside, so we weren't sweating on that plane," said Louis Persico, a traveler.

"I think this is what you call 'unexpected.' No matter how you prepare, something unexpected is going to come, and you don't know when, how, where it's going to take place," said Elvita Hunt, a traveler.

As of 9:30 a.m., the airport said "many inbound flights are being diverted." Security screening operations later resumed at some checkpoints.

At 11:20 a.m., the airport said power restoration to the main terminal continued, and that security screening resumed at checkpoints A and B. Power was also restored to Southwest ticket counters.

Baltimore Gas and Electric confirmed that there are wires down in the area near the airport that are "customer-owned" energy sources.
