Baltimore, MD - Feb. 3, 2025 - I’ve heard from many of you about the significant increase in your BGE bills, and I understand how challenging this is for everyone. Unfortunately, this rise is impacting many of us. I’m now serving on a committee that oversees energy legislation, and I’m working closely with my colleagues to address this issue. While it’s not an overnight fix, our office has been in direct communication with BGE to discuss concerns with the rising bills we have seen this winter. BGE is taking several steps to help customers manage their bills and maintain service during the winter months:
- Waiving late payment fees for January and February 2025.
- Suspending disconnections for nonpayment in February 2025.
- Streamlining the process to get any customers who were already disconnected back in service sooner.
The following programs and tools are available to customers to help with current high bills:
- Visit bge.com/heretohelp for ways to manage your bill, use energy more efficiently, or access energy assistance. This includes:
· BGE’s self-service Assistance Finder, which provides simple and personalized recommendations.
· Financial assistance through state programs and the Fuel Fund of Maryland.
· Payment arrangement and due-date extension information and online self-serve sign-up. Pay your current high bill over a period of time or extend the due date to receive more time to pay.
· Budget billing information and online self-serve sign-up for customers who prefer a predictable monthly bill that spreads energy costs throughout the year.
I’ll continue to advocate for solutions at the state level, and in the meantime, please take advantage of these resources to ease the burden.
