Baltimore, MD - Jan. 19, 2025 - As we continue to address the impacts of last week’s severe weather, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOT), remains committed to restoring essential services.
DOT crews began salting and clearing ice-covered alleys yesterday to restore access for trash collection trucks, and DPW crews, supported by emergency contractors, are working extended hours, through weekend, to address delayed trash and recycling pickups. If your trash or recycling was missed, please call 311 to ensure your address is included in the collection process. Please also remember to move your trash and recycling bins to the edge of your yard to allow DOT crews to continue clearing alleyways.
Trash and recycling are being collected separately, so if trash is collected while recycling remains, a separate truck will follow to complete the recycling pickup. Due to continued low temperatures, street sweeping services remain suspended until further notice.
In addition to waste collection efforts, DPW crews continue to respond to a significant increase in water main breaks caused by freezing and thawing cycles. Extra crews and emergency contractors are working diligently to repair breaks as quickly and safely as possible, with work continuing through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
This reminder is also an opportunity to help protect your home’s water lines. Letting a thin stream of water run from a basement faucet, opening cabinet doors under sinks, and insulating pipes in unheated areas can help prevent frozen pipes. If you experience a water main break, Baltimore City residents should report it by calling 311 or using the mobile app, while Baltimore County customers can call 443-263-2220.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as DPW and DOT work together to restore essential services. For more updates, visit our website or contact 311 for assistance.
