Madison School Shooting Leaves Three Dead and Six Injured

Madison, WI - Dec. 16, 2024 - A 17-year-old female student opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison on Monday, killing a teacher and a fellow student before taking her own life. Six other students were injured, with two in critical condition. The attack occurred just days before the school’s holiday break.

Police responded to the scene after reports of gunfire and confirmed the shooter died by suicide. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that the shooting was confined to one area of the school, and investigators are working to determine a motive. The weapon used was identified as a 9mm handgun.

President Joe Biden condemned the attack as “shocking and unconscionable,” urging Congress to pass stricter gun laws, including universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers expressed his grief and gratitude for the swift response by emergency services.

The private Christian school, which serves 390 students, requested prayers for the victims and their families. Local hospitals treated the injured, while nearby schools heightened security measures. The tragedy adds to a growing list of school shootings nationwide, sparking renewed debates over gun control and safety measures in educational institutions. Investigations remain ongoing.
