Shame on Baltimore Hebrew Congregation for Hosting Divisive and Misleading Speakers

Baltimore, MD – Dec. 13, 2024 – (BZD) Last night, Baltimore Hebrew Congregation hosted an event featuring speakers who perpetuated misleading and divisive narratives.
One speaker discussed supposed “persecution” while also admitting to the full rights she enjoys as an Israeli citizen—attending university, renting apartments, and more. She also highlighted differences in airport questioning, framing Israel as discriminatory, without acknowledging the security realities that justify these measures.

The most powerful moment, however, came when a brave Israeli woman stood up, emotionally demanding answers about October 7: Where are our babies? Our hostages? The panel remained silent, failing to address the atrocities committed against innocent Israelis by Hamas.

BJL interviewed this Israeli woman, who wished to remain anonymous but identified herself by the initials T.M. She shared:
“Last night’s event was heartbreaking for me as an American Israeli. Sitting there, I was subjected to speakers spreading lies and propaganda about my home country. They presented a one-sided, negative picture of Israel, completely ignoring the daily challenges and threats we face. It was a betrayal. We need honest conversations that show the full story, not harmful rhetoric that deepens divisions and spreads misunderstanding.”

This event was not about fostering dialogue or promoting unity—it was an insult to the Jewish community and to every victim of October 7. BHC, you should be ashamed for giving a platform to this rhetoric, especially during such a painful time for our people. We will not remain silent in the face of such divisive narratives.
Am Yisrael Chai.
