Police are intensifying their search for the suspect who fatally shot Brian Thompson, 50, the chief executive of UnitedHealth’s insurance arm, in a targeted attack outside a New York City hotel early Wednesday.

Authorities executed a warrant Thursday at an Upper West Side hostel in connection with the case. The suspect, described as brazen and deliberate, left coded messages such as "defend" written on bullets that jammed in his gun during the attack.

Images of a person of interest, smiling and wearing a hood, were released by the NYPD. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

The suspect, who used cash to evade tracking, was seen at a Starbucks before the shooting. Investigators found a cellphone in an alley where he may have fled.

Thompson, visiting from Minnesota for UnitedHealth's investor meeting, was shot in the back and chest while heading to prepare for the event. The killing has left New Yorkers uneasy as the manhunt continues. Authorities do not believe there is a public threat but urge vigilance.

No arrests have been made.
