Agudath Israel is pleased that felony terrorism and hate crime charges are being brought against the suspect in the horrific shooting of an Orthodox Jewish man on his way to shul on Shabbos morning.
“This brutal and unprovoked attack on a visibly Jewish man on his way to shul has left our community shaken over the past few days,” said Rabbi Shlomo Soroka, director of government affairs at Agudath Israel of Illinois. “We are gratified that hate crime charges have been announced and will continue to watch the legal process closely.
Agudath Israel is grateful to the Chicago Police Department and Superintendent Larry Snelling, the State’s Attorney’s office, the FBI, and all those who have been working nonstop on this investigation to make sure justice will be served.
We are also grateful to all the elected officials who have reached out to us and who have stood with our community in this difficult moment."
