A Jewish man was slashed in the face in a random attack as he was walking on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning.
The horrific incident occurred near Flatbush Avenue and Lafayette Avenue in front of the Whole Foods Market at approximately 9:15AM. The victim, who was visibly Jewish, was simply walking when the perpetrator, a black male wearing a ski mask, walked up to the victim and without any provocation, slashed him in the face.
The victim reported that the attacker yelled hateful rhetoric before slashing him.
Witnesses immediately came to the victim’s aid and provided any information regarding the perpetrator to the police officers.
The victim, who is a resident of Crown Heights in his late 20’s, was transported in serious but stable condition by Hatzalah. Crown Heights Shmira is assisting the NYPD in making sure the perpetrator is apprehended.
Yaacov Behrman, community activist and director of the Jewish Future Alliance, wrote on X: “I can confirm that at approximately 9am this morning on Flatbush and Lafayette, a member of the Crown Jewish community was slashed in the face. I just spoke to the family; he is hospitalized and requires surgery. The attacker allegedly yelled hateful rhetoric.
This is a very serious incident, and the Jewish Future Alliance is deeply concerned about it. Witnesses at the scene testified that it was unprovoked.
We are praying for the victim and sending support and love to his family.”
