Baltimore, Md - Sept. 25, 2024 - Baltimore police arrested two teenagers in connection with a series of carjackings and auto thefts.
City police announced the arrests Wednesday morning, saying a 14-year-old boy remains in custody while a 16-year-old boy was released to a guardian.
Police said the arrests stem from a carjacking Monday morning on Winner Avenue, an attempted carjacking on Nurton Avenue and a stolen vehicle taken from Cedardale Road. Witnesses told investigators they saw people getting out of a stolen Lexus, which was taken in the Winner Avenue incident, before fleeing in both vehicles.
Police said investigators obtained surveillance video from the Winner Avenue incident that led to the identification of the 14-year-old.
On Tuesday, police said there was another carjacking using a "bump and run" maneuver on Kelly Avenue. Officers were called to a crash on Park Heights Terrace involving one of the stolen vehicles.
Detectives searched the area and found two of the stolen cars parked and unoccupied. Detectives and Baltimore County police aerial units tracked down the 14-year-old suspect and a 15-year-old girl in one of the stolen cars on Buleith Avenue. Then, police said officers arrested the 16-year-old who was found in another stolen car on Reisterstown Road.
Police said surveillance video linked the 16-year-old to the Kelly Avenue carjacking, as he was wearing the same clothing at the time of his arrest. He was previously arrested on a theft of a motor vehicle charge in June, police said.
The 14-year-old was on court-mandated GPS monitoring at the time of these incidents for four previous arrests this year, including armed robbery, stolen autos and assault. He faces additional charges related to the four recent robberies.
The 15-year-old girl was released at the scene.
