Baltimore, MD - Aug. 16, 2024  - Maryland added 6,100 jobs, including 5,300 in the private sector, in July, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

That job growth ranged across industries, but was stronger in certain areas, including cybersecurity, life sciences research, and transportation.

Total employment grew at double the national rate - 0.2% in Maryland versus 0.1% nationally. That trend is consistent with the entirety of 2024 so far - 1.2% in Maryland as opposed to 0.9% across the country.

The Department of Labor's report included other positive trends as well.

Maryland's labor force participation rate of 65.5% is the state's highest since September 2020 and well above the national average of 62.7%.

The 2.8% unemployment rate in Maryland remained unchanged and among the ten lowest in the nation.
