Renew Baltimore Files Appeal With Maryland Supreme Court On Potential Property Tax Cut

Renew Baltimore filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Maryland to reverse a decision on whether a property tax rate cut can be on the November ballot.

Renew Baltimore has proposed a gradual cut of Baltimore City’s property tax rate over a seven-year period from 2.2% to 1.2%. The petition received enough signatures to appear on the ballot in November.

However, the Baltimore City Board of Elections rejected the proposal citing that according to Maryland law, only elected leaders can change property tax rates.

complaint was filed with the Baltimore City Circuit in July.The Circuit Court judge sided with the City on Friday.
