Baltimore, MD - Aug. 9, 2024 - The fifth grade of Cheder Chabad, led by Rabbi Sholom Cohen, concluded the year with a siyum on all 22 perakim of Maseches Shabbos. On Thursday, 12 Tammuz, parents came to participate in a unique event. Each talmid put away their mishnayos to test their proficiency in the masechta. Rabbi Bentzion Stolik, a noted talmid chochom and the shliach in Olney, Maryland, tested the boys. Similar to the famous pin test, Rabbi Stolik randomly opened the mishnayos to a random perek and mishna and began reading. The boys were able to continue to state by heart the rest of the mishna. Rabbi Cohen then stopped the boys and asked them to explain the mishna they had just recited by heart, ensuring that not only had they committed the mishna to memory but also had a full understanding of what they were learning. This was repeated multiple times until the boys were tested on all parts of the masechta!
On the same day, the 7th grade and their Rebbe, Rabbi Eliezer Wulliger, concluded the entire Perek Hamfkid. They were farhered by Harav HaGaon R’ Dovid Heber, rav of Kehillas Ahavas Yisrael Tzemach Tzedek and noted expert in many areas of Halacha. Rabbi Heber tested the bochurim on the entire perek, challenging their understanding of the material. With the help of their Rebbe, the talmidim published a booklet of their Q&A they had posed throughout the year during learning. This gave them the opportunity to feel the geshmak of writing and publishing Chiddushei Torah.
Throughout the year, the boys were tested by various Rabbanim, including Rabbi Amrom Jungreis of Mosdos Khal Chasidim and Rabbi Elchonon Lisbon of Ohel Levi Yitzchok and Chabad of Park Heights. After the final farher, each talmid received a certificate attesting to their proficiency in the perek, signed by the respected Rabbanim.
