Jerusalem, Israel – Aug. 2, 2024 - (JPost) Western intelligence sources told Sky News Arabia that Iran plans to attack Israel on Tisha B’Av, in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The attack, coordinated with Hezbollah, is expected to occur between August 12 and 13. The timing is seen as adding psychological impact, making Jewish Israelis feel vulnerable.
Three sources confirmed to the New York Times that Iran intends to retaliate for Haniyeh's assassination. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, also hinted at revenge. Attacks on Jewish holidays have historical precedence, such as the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and the Simchat Torah attack on October 7.
The report suggests that an attack on Tisha B’Av would not only be symbolic but could also catch Israel off guard, with security forces possibly preoccupied with religious observances. Additionally, it could boost the morale of terror groups and reinforce Iran's support for regional terror leaders.
In a previous attempt in April, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, but, b’Chasdei HaShem, most were intercepted, causing only minor damage.
