Disturbing Double Standard by Johns Hopkins with regard to Jewish v Muslim Doctors

Baltimore, MD - July 22, 2024  - On October 8th, the day following the October 7th massacre in Israel, Dr. Darren Klugman posted anti-Palestinian comments on social media. He was subsequently suspended, and Johns Hopkins President stated: “Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins University are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for working, learning and patient care for every member of our community and all those we serve,“ he wrote. “Statements that explicitly threaten or extol violence against groups or individuals on the basis of national origin, race or religion violate our policies and do not represent our values.”

Dr. Klugman deleted his posts and publicly apologized.  Today is July 21st, and Dr. Klugman is still suspended.

Ever since the October 7th massacre, Dr. Zoobia Chaudhry, another Johns Hopkins employee, has been publicly posting and stating antisemitic comments.  Her comments have been ignored by Johns Hopkins, and she continues to be working for them as a doctor.

Delegate Dalya Attar recently sent the President of Johns Hopkins nearly 100 screenshots and videos, including one of Dr. Chaudhry leading a rally for faculty, students and other doctors and healthcare workers chanting "There is only one solution: Intifada revolution", a literal call to kill Jews.

Dr. Chaudhry even tweets in response to President Biden showing support for Israel: “I pray you burn in hell! FOREVER”

Delegate Attar, upon sharing the screenshots and videos with President Daniels, said in-part: “When I received calls from your office updating me about the protests, I was under the impression those involved were students.  It never even crossed my mind that a doctor, while simultaneously treating patients, is joining in - and speaking at - these antisemitic protests.  This is disturbing and needs to be addressed.

What has me even more disturbed is Johns Hopkins' decision to suspend Dr. Klugman for comments he made the day after the October 7th massacre – comments for which Dr. Klugman apologized.  Dr. Klugman remains suspended while Dr. Chaudhry continues to see patients. I have tried - and failed - to ascertain how Dr. Klugman's comments resulted in suspension, while Dr. Chaudhry continues her blatantly antisemitic violence-inciting chants and tweets with seeming impunity.”

President Daniels was made aware of Dr. Chaudhry’s bias as early as December, yet she is still employed by his establishment. This double standard is unacceptable.  Contact Johns Hopkins President Daniels and let him know how you feel about this.
