While Democrats in Washington debate the future of the top of the Democratic ticket, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore doubled down on his staunch support for President Joe Biden’s re-election efforts.

Gov. Moore participated in a Biden campaign fundraising call Monday, and according to Moore’s campaign, he will “continue to advocate for the Biden-Harris ticket" during the call.

During a town hall discussion with political commentator Armstrong Williams, who also co-owns The Baltimore Sun, Williams questioned Gov. Moore about his stance on President Biden staying in the re-election race.

“I understand that the president has got to make his case, and he’s got to make his case to the American people,” Gov. Moore said. “He’s the person who won the primary. He’s the nominee. He’s the person who millions of people voted for, and I will always stand with the people.”

Gov. Moore went on to say that he believes that President Biden has shown his loyalty and commitment to working with him to improve the state of Maryland. Pointing to the catastrophic Key Bridge collapse in March 2024, Gov. Moore noted President Biden swiftly responded and committed the federal government’s help to clear out the shipping channel that was blocking access to and from the Port of Baltimore, and the commitment to rebuild the bridge.

“I watched as the president gave a press conference at noon that day where he said to the world, ‘we are standing with Baltimore, and we will be with them every step of the way.’ And he has been,” Gov. Moore said during the discussion taped at the WJLA television studios in Arlington, Virginia.

I am standing with the president because I believe in democracy, I believe the people have spoken, and I’m standing with the president because when we were knocked down he stood with us and I’m never going to forget that and I don’t do disloyalty, Gov. Moore added.

President Biden’s shaky debate performance on June 27 sparked concern and growing discontent among some Democrats across the country. Since then, several Democratic lawmakers in Congress have said President Biden should pull out of the race and allow someone else – possibly Vice President Kamala Harris – to move forward as the Democratic nominee.

However, despite a divide growing among the Democratic Party, President Biden has made it clear on multiple occasions that he is staying in the race. During a phone interview on MSNBC Monday, President Biden doubled down on his commitment to staying in the race.

"I’m getting frustrated by the elites — not you guys — the elites in the party. Oh, they know so much more. Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention," President Biden said during the phone interview on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe."

Delegates from all 50 states and territories will gather in Chicago to officially nominate the presidential ticket during the Democratic National Convention from Aug. 19-22.
