Hancock, MD - June 10, 2024 - Sen. John Fetterman, D-PA, was driving when he collided with another vehicle on I-70 in Maryland Sunday morning, reports said. He and his wife, Giselle, were evaluated at a hospital before they returned home.
Media reports said the senator was driving a Chevrolet Traverse that rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala as the vehicles were westbound on I-70 at the interchange with I-68 near Hancock. No citations were issued.
Fetterman, 54, was treated for a sore shoulder and his wife was checked out of an abundance of caution, his spokesman told the New York Post. The people in the Impala were not named, but the passenger of the other car, along with the Fettermans, was taken to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia, according to police.
“They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock,” the senator's spokesperson told The Hill.
Maryland State Police said the two-vehicle crash happened just before 8 a.m. when John Fetterman struck the rear of the Impala for an “unknown” reason.
“The crash investigation remains active and ongoing,” state police said.
Sen. Fetterman is expected to be back in Washington for votes later this week, according to NBC News.
