The crash on the Bay Bridge on Saturday morning involved 43 vehicles between the primary pileup and secondary crashes, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
13 people were hurt in the crash, two seriously. However, MDTA said in a news release that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The crash, which happened about 8 this morning, froze westbound traffic when all lanes going that direction were shut down to rescue drivers and passengers.
MDTA said 23 vehicles were involved in a chain reaction crash. An additional 20 vehicles were involved in secondary crashes, according to MDTA.
The latest news release from MDTA did not indicate how the crash happened, but the weather may have played a role in the crash. Visibility near the Bay Bridge at the time was about 1/4 mile, and there was a dense fog advisory for areas east of the bridge, according to 7News meteorologists.
